SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas has been around for 79 years, but Saturday's edition set a record for the most combined points scored. The final was 54-39, with Oklahoma quarterback commit Austin Kendall and Alabama running back commit B.J. Emmons leading the North Carolina squad to victory. The high scoring shootout featured plenty of notable moments for both teams. Here's a rundown of what caught our eye.

Alabama running back commit B.J. Emmons looks quicker and more explosive than he did over the summer on the game circuit and his ability to make plays in space was on full display. In terms of his fit in Alabama's offense he's likely more of a Kenyan Drake type than a Derrick Henry type, but with his playmaking ability it's easy to see why SEC teams were battling for Emmons. He finished the game with 89 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and also caught one pass for 15 yards.
It was a disappointing day for Rivals100 and Clemson running back commit Tavien Feaster as he was clearly out shined by Emmons in the head-to-head match up. He finished the game 55 yards on 14 carries and also had three catches for 11 yards, but he fumbled twice and never really showed the type of explosiveness that helped him move up in the most recent Rivals rankings. Feaster is playing in the Army All-American Game next month, but against stiffer competition it will be an uphill battle for him to show he belongs in the conversation for the top overall running back spot in the country.
It appears Emmons may have boosted his stock after his performance yesterday, but comparing him to Drake?

I thought it was announced that the Arkansas State OC is going to Maryland?
Posted on 12/19/15 at 11:31 pm to TideSaint
Would he make a lateral move and does Maryland have the money to pay?

If Kiffin makes a lateral move like that, then I'd say some of the rumors must be true.
No way Kiffin is making a lateral move, and no way is Saban retiring.

I meant some of the rumors about Kiffin being in the doghouse. Sorry, I should have clarified

Phew, thought you were implying the retirement rumors

Quickly: Name Texas A&M's fourth-string quarterback entering the month of December.
That fourth-stringer, Conner McQueen, is now the backup quarterback with less than two weeks remaining before the Aggies head to Nashville, Tennessee, to face Louisville in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30. And for what it's worth, there aren't many outside of College Station, Texas, who know the name of the Aggies' starting quarterback.
After Thursday's news of Kyler Murray's plans to transfer, which came after last week's news of Kyle Allen's transfer, Jake Hubenak takes over starting duties for the Aggies. Texas A&M not only lost both of its 5-star quarterbacks but also is now under the leadership of a junior college transfer who appeared in only four games in a reserve role.
And if Hubenak is unable to go, McQueen's only action has been on special teams, as he's the holder for extra-point attempts and field goals.
In short, Texas A&M is in need of a quarterback or two. Badly.
Here's what may be worse from a recruiting standpoint: The Aggies have 17 commits, but none of them is a quarterback. Even though Texas A&M has 5-star Tate Martell committed for the 2017 class, quarterback is a position that is suddenly important with signing day only two months away.
Here are seven players who the Aggies could target between now and the Feb. 3 signing day. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

4-star Jalen Hurts
Hometown (school): Channelview, Texas (Channelview HS)
Size: 6'2", 208 lbs
247Sports composite ranking: No. 197 (No. 6 dual)
Alabama landed a solid get over the summer in Jalen Hurts, a quarterback the Aggies have had their eyes on for some time. There was a time when Hurts was considered a primary target. His stats are proof that he can play; he accounted for more than 3,700 yards and 51 total touchdowns as a senior.
A coach's son, Hurts thrives on making the right decisions. In turn, he's also someone who can be a reliable game manager and a quarterback who knows how to get the first down in tough situations. While Texas A&M is hoping to flip him, Alabama will want to keep him committed.

The Buckeyes have the country’s No. 1 2017 class in the 247Sports recruiting rankings. In the class they have a commitment from one running back, Todd Sibley, but are interested in adding another.
One elite 2017 running back they have offered a scholarship is Alabama commitment Najee Harris from Antioch (Calif.).
“They were supposed to come out last week, but something happened,” Harris said about the Buckeyes.
Harris committed to Alabama in April, but the recruiting process continues.
“I’m still open to everyone,” Harris said. “I want to meet the (Ohio State) running backs coach (Tony Alford). I’ve heard he is pretty cool.”
Harris is planning to see Ohio State, though he hasn’t nailed down exactly when.
“Yeah, I’m pretty interested in Ohio State,” Harris said. “I’m taking a visit there, I just don’t know when. But I’ll get out there.”
The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Harris rushed for over 2,700 yards and 39 touchdowns during his junior season. Harris has a long list of scholarship offers that includes Alabama, Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia and Tennessee.
Harris is a 5-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 2 overall 2017 prospect, the No. 1 running back, and the No. 1 prospect in California.

The comparison to Drake is pre injury Drake because Emmons is very elusive especially changing directions and has great hands to catch the ball

Exactly on the Drake comparison, his pre-injury form was outstanding and remember, our issue with him was ball security. If Emmons is 215 - 225 then I don't think he will have an issue getting 20 or so touches (if needed).

We'll be right in it for Harris until Signing Day 2017 as long as Tosh is around, but it will be tough to keep him from UCLA. They have a really creative scheme of pay for play.

I hope we keep Harris, but with the log jam of backs we are building again I can see him going elsewhere
