Thanks . I figured the rapid fire approach from B/Rs offer list was good because I've forgotten to post half of those at the time they happened.

Derrick Brown Tweets Top 8 Schools: Which Team Holds Edge for 5-Star DT?
By Damon Sayles , National Recruiting Analyst Feb. 23, 2015

Derrick Brown has everything a program wants in a defensive tackle. Strength. Size. Agility. A mean streak.

Brown has 25 offers, but on Monday, the 6'4", 309-pound brick wall trimmed his list to eight schools—all eight representing the SEC. He tweeted that Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and LSU made the cut.

We know the conference, but when looking at favorites, keep your eye on the first three schools he tweeted. And consider the last school one to watch, as well.

Georgia has to be considered an early favorite. Georgia was one of his first offers, and with the campus being less than an hour from his home of Buford, Georgia, proximity will have an advantage. In an interview last month with Jake Reuse of Rivals.com, Brown said he speaks frequently with head coach Mark Richt, defensive line coach Tracy Rocker and defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Georgia is the leader according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, but Auburn, LSU and Alabama are three schools who could challenge the Bulldogs in the race. Auburn and Alabama both are within reasonable driving distance from home, and both are contenders for SEC championships each year. Brown has made multiple unofficial visits to both schools.

And then there's LSU, a school Brown wanted to visit for last week's junior day but, according to Justin Rowland of Rivals.com, couldn't make the trip because of a scheduled student council retreat. He told Rowland that he was a fan of the team's defense, and an unofficial visit could take place around spring break.

Since November, Brown has been to Mississippi State, Alabama and Vanderbilt. He also wants to make visits to the four aforementioned schools, per Rowland.

Player-coach relationships will be very important as Brown looks to trim his list from eight. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner has been his primary contact at Auburn. Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart and defensive line coach Bo Davis are Brown's contacts at Alabama.

LSU is a wild card because of his budding relationships there. Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron is Brown's recruiting contact, and he told Rowland that while everything is still new, he likes Orgeron's passion for the game.

The winning school gets someone who can be an immediate impact player on the defensive line. Brown could be an all-conference player early in his career.

Georgia is hoping he'll be that kind of player in Athens. The other schools are hoping to do enough to make Georgia a runner-up in the race.

TJ Simmons Commits to Alabama: In-State WR an Offensive Weapon for 2016 Class
By Damon Sayles , National Recruiting Analyst Feb 19, 2015

There was little time to weigh options for T.J. Simmons. He knew what he wanted.

Get the offer from Alabama, appreciate the offer, accept the offer.

It only took a few hours for the 3-star wide receiver from Pinson, Alabama, to give his verbal commitment to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide early Thursday afternoon. Simmons became the fourth player to commit to Alabama and the first receiver to pledge, per 247Sports.

At 6'2" and 180 pounds, Simmons has good size, good hands and, as a 3-star player, may be considered an underrated target by some. He had additional offers from Mississippi State, Cincinnati, Southern Miss and Arkansas State, among others.

Alabama saw a lot of potential in Simmons during the 2014 season, and Simmons is in a great situation where he can silence a ton of critics who only see his star rating. He is only the 11th 3-star player to commit to the Crimson Tide since 2014, per 247Sports. The Crimson Tide have had 54 players commit since 2014—13 of those being 5-star athletes and 30 being 4-star athletes.

According to Drew Champlin of AL.com, Simmons was an all-state receiver who nearly recorded 1,000 yards on only 43 catches, averaging better than 22 yards a catch. He scored 20 all-purpose touchdowns in helping Clay-Chalkville High School win a state championship.

In short, Simmons isn't a marginal talent.

Simmons was a big-play receiver as a junior, and much is expected of him in his senior year. Alabama is hoping he can be just as big of a weapon when he arrives in Tuscaloosa in 2016. Champlin said Simmons made several trips to Alabama for games last season. Pinson is roughly an hour drive away from Tuscaloosa.

Simmons, additionally, is Alabama's first in-state commit of the 2016 class, which could be an advantage for him. He will be called upon to be a player-recruiter, which is important in a state with several elite players still uncommitted.

The level of competition at receiver is always high, as Saban, offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and receivers coach Billy Napier do a great job of putting the best talent on the field. Simmons will be called upon to deliver his A game during every practice and every game.

Simmons hopes to follow the footsteps of Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White and the other receivers to wear crimson and white. In the meanwhile, look for Simmons to get better all-around as a receiver and target a few other players with Alabama offers. Among the in-state talents available are 5-star defensive end Marlon Davidson and 5-star linebackers Lyndell Wilson and Ben Davis.

It’s an interesting question and I’m not sure what the correct answer is. When recruiting sites rate prospects, how much are they weighing potential versus what the player is right now?

When I watch defensive tackle Derrick Brown, I see 5 star potential, but I don’t see a 5 star player on the field yet. His progress on the field as a senior and at the college level is going to be extremely interesting to monitor because he has the raw talent to be as good as any other player in this recruiting class.

Height: 6’3?

Weight: 293

Athletic ability/measurables

Brown is big enough to plug into a defensive tackle position at the college level right now with room to add even more weight. With his length and frame, he has ideal measurables for the position. His movement skills for someone his size are remarkable. He’s a very good athlete that runs like a much smaller player.

Skills/technique

Brown plays end for his high school team and he is able to at that level because he moves like a much smaller player. He shows ridiculous closing speed in pursuit for a player his size and an ability to tackle better in space than some linebackers.

He flashes an explosive first step at times, but is very inconsistent with his snap anticipation. He too often stands up out of his stance and is able to just be an athlete and pursue to the football, but that isn’t going to cut it in the SEC. He needs to be a lot less passive and be more violent with his hands, use his length better, and be the kind of penetrator into the backfield that he has shown he is capable of being.

He has the chance to be a dominant interior pass rusher because of his quickness and the way he converts speed to power. Even athletic guards will have trouble with him because of the way he can naturally bend to beat them. Like just about every defensive lineman his age, he needs to develop some pass rush moves, but that should hopefully come with time.

Scheme fit

He is athletic enough to play as a 5 technique end in a 3-4, but is likely best suited as a 3 technique in a 4-3.

Potential

His ceiling is so high, but he has some work to do before he can approach that ceiling. Consistency is the key. Being that big and talented is so rare and hopefully the light will click on for him when going against better competition because the game almost seems too easy for him in high school. He has All-American potential if he can put it all together.

Special is a word that I think that is thrown around too often when evaluating players, but sometimes its use is warranted when describing a specific skill or trait. To me, it’s special when you see an offensive lineman show an extra edge to his game and want to drive players 30 yards down the field or put them on their butt.

John Curtis offensive tackle Willie Allen has that special trait in him. When you throw in the fact that he is a massive as he is at his age, that’s why he is such a coveted recruit by the top programs in the SEC.

Height: 6’7?

Weight: 300

Athletic ability/measurables

There is no questioning Willie Allen’s physical gifts. He’s a massive young man with great length for the tackle position. He moves well for a kid his size, but he needs to gain some flexibility and to bend at the knees more naturally.

Skills/technique

There are many things Allen need to improve on starting with his pad level. He consistently pops up out of his stance and loses the leverage game. He’s able to overcome it at the high school level because of his size and strength, but he won’t be as fortunate at the college level in this area.

Another area he needs to improve his hand placement. He doesn’t fit his hand very well or get his body in the correct position to wall off defenders.

What Allen does do extremely well is show a great initial pop when he initially makes contact and he works to try and finish his blocks. There is some nasty to his game and that’s great to see.

He’s raw in pass protection and needs to be refined in this area. He leans too far forward in the limited reps I got to watch of him pass blocking. He needs to work on being more balanced and use his length better.

Scheme fit

Allen’s best fit is likely as a right tackle at the next level.

Potential

Allen is raw as a technician, but his tools are phenomenal. I’m not just talking about his physical size and strength either. He shows he wants to finish blocks. That’s more important to me than the other parts of his game right now because he can work and improve his technique over time. If he puts in the time to improve, he could be a potentially dominating run blocker in the SEC.

There are some football players where the game almost looks too easy for them. Like they are in “All-Madden” mode and their opposition is stuck on “Rookie”.

That’s what it looks like when you watch Alabama commit Shyheim Carter. Wherever he is lined up on the field, he seems like he can pretty much do anything he wants out there.

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 180

Athletic ability/measurables

Carter is a tremendous athlete with very good speed and acceleration. He has outstanding lateral agility and can change directions fluidly. I’m unsure of his size because there’s a big discrepancy with his height and weight where I’ve seen it listed.

Skills/technique

Carter is magic with the ball in his hands and plays multiple positions at the prep level. His vision as a runner in the open field makes him a dangerous player as a receiver after the catch and as a returner. It also helps that he has the ability to put it in another gear to run away from people. He’s clearly athletically superior to the competition he faces at his high school. He shows good balls skills at receiver and cornerback. Just like at receiver, he’s a threat after catching the ball on defense too.

He’s a raw in his technique as a corner. He can play press, but needs to learn to get a better jam at the line on receivers. He shows great recovery speed and transitions fluidly to break on the football though. He does a nice job fighting off blocks to get to the football in run support. He’s a solid tackler that wraps up and doesn’t catch on contact.

Scheme fit

Carter is a talented enough athlete to excel on offense or defense. Him being a jack of all trades for his prep team just means he has the chance to get exponentially better once he concentrates on one position at the next level.

Potential

If Carter sticks with his pledge to the Alabama, he has the chance to develop into an elite corner because of his athleticism. At whatever school or position he ends up, he should make an impact in some fashion early in his career.

Another article on Fils-Aime:

quote:

Alabama, Auburn among schools contending for running back Carlin Fils-Aime

Carlin Fils-Aime
Fils-Aime is up to 14 total offers. (247Sports)
Carlin Fils-Aime's recruitment is taking off, and Alabama and Auburn are both on board for the ride.

The Tide and Tigers, along with Florida and South Carolina, recently offered scholarships to the four-star running back from Naples, Fla. He now holds 14 total offers and is quickly becoming one of the nation's most sought-after running backs.

"I wasn't really expecting to get any of the offers, but they called and offered and I was really surprised when they did," Fils-Aime told AL.com Monday. "Everything's been going fine. I'm keeping them at the same level right now and taking my time to make my decision on where I want to go."

Originally from Haiti, Fils-Aime moved to the United States when he was 5 years old and was adopted by the family he lives with when he was 11. He admits he's never really watched sports, even football, which he has been playing for more than four years.

Regarding Auburn, Fils-Aime said he speaks with offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and running backs coach Tim Horton about once every other day. He picked up the offer from the Tigers Feb. 18.

"I like the coaches," he said. "They're really good guys. I won't lie, because I hate lying. I don't really watch sports, but the only reason I know of Auburn's offense is because I play with them in NCAA Football (video game.) But I really like their offense. I just never heard of them before Cam Newton went to Auburn and Tre Mason."

The Crimson Tide offered the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder the day prior to Auburn, on Feb. 17.

"Nick Saban told my coach he wanted to talk to me, and that's when he offered," Fils-Aime said. "I think he's a really good guy. He had a lot to say about the school. They're one of the top football teams and they have a really great school. They'll help me in life during school and afterwards so I can get a job and do what I to do."

Fils-Aime plans on studying law, but has not explored many campuses yet. He's been to Miami for a tour and Florida for a track meet. He plans on visiting Alabama and Auburn, along with other schools in the Southeast, this summer when he takes a trip to North Carolina. He also holds offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Ohio State and Tennessee.

"I'm looking for great academics and a school that the players and coaches have a bond and a connection with," he said. "A place where it feels like I'm still at home. I don't want to go to school where I'm homesick and want to leave."

Rivals ranks Fils-Aime as a three-star prospect. He has yet to be rated by 247Sports, Scout or ESPN.

Starkville WR AJ Brown says OM and Alabama are recruiting him the hardest. He previously named OM his leader, but has backed off that since.
He likes Napier's personality.
Thinks he might visit LSU next.

A couple of tidbits from Jimmy Smith. Sounds pretty homerish to me, but something to discuss I suppose:

quote:

Deontay Anderson, S, 6-1, 190, Texas

Many around LSU believe Anderson may be the best pure safety in the country and it's apparent that he believes LSU is the school that could best develop his talents. The Tigers have quietly emerged as the leader for his services, although many would argue that statement, but I believe it to be true at this time. It won't be easy landing him; landing elite prospects never is, but the relationship Corey Raymond has built with Anderson and his family is unmatched by any other program right now.

quote:

Shyheim Carter, ATH, 5-11, 185, Kentwood, Alabama commitment

Okay, maybe the Tigers don't lead for Carter, I mean, he is committed to Alabama right now, but they have made a push recently, led by Frank Wilson, and it appears that the idea of Carter playing safety at the next level is something that has been discussed recently. I agree with this assessment, even sharing these sentiments with Carter dating back to last February. However, he is very talented and versatile, so things could change as he further develops.

Has this been discussed yet?
quote:

Nick Saban has reportedly hired a new Director of Football Operations to his staff, filling the spot left by Joe Pannunzio. Alabama has reportedly hired Justin Dickens, the former Director of Football Operations at Michigan, in the same capacity, according to FootballScoop.com.

Dickens became the Director of Football Operations at Michigan for the 2014 season after serving as the program's Public and Media Relations Director from 2011-13. Prior to landing the job at Michigan in May of 2011, Dickens spent seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, working his way up to Manager of Publicity (2006-10).

Dickens was a graduate assistant in the athletics communications office at Georgia, where he earned his master's degree in education (sports management), from 2003-04 before joining the Colts organization. He earned a bachelor of science degree in public relations from Austin Peay State University in 2003.
