Here's a chat with the author of the unauthorized biography of Saban. Read it. There's a lot of interesting things in it. LINK

Is there a coach (college or pro, I suppose) he loves to beat more than any other (or, vice versa, hates to lose to)? It’s gotta be Urban, right?

Urban and whoever is coaching Auburn.

Next posts coming from Jimmy Smith's Nola.com chat:

quote:

The two linebackers from Alabama Wilson and Davis. Do you think the interest in LSU is sincere or is it just a matter time before they commit to The Crimson Tide?

@Reggie I think LSU has a lot working in its favor with every elite linebacker. The available playing time for linebackers in Baton Rouge next season can't be matched by anyone. The Tigers need guys and they need them now. That alone has them in the mix, but they are also very comfortable with Kevin Steele, who is quietly one of the best recruiters in the business today.

I think there is a shot here, albeit somewhat small, but certainly worthy of paying attention to.

Jimmy also thinks Gary would choose LSU if signing day were today.

LSU more likely to get Gary, Manuel, Lawrence? One both or perhaps.. All three? Can Ed O pull it off?

@ByuBngl_7 I'm leaning LSU on all three right now. I question myself because it would be one of the greatest hauls ever, and it's hard to fathom a group like that, but it seems very possible.

Thought I saw a September commitment date for Gary....is that right? I thought he would have waited till All-American game or signing day to commit anywhere.

@TigerPat I've been getting the feeling that it may not be that long from now before he decides to wrap things up. How soon? Not quite sure.

If you thought Elijah Holyfield was only focusing on a couple of schools in his top five, guess again.

Holyfield, a 4-star RB from Woodward Academy, told the AJC that he will not narrow down his top five before he commits on Sept. 4.

UGA, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee and South Carolina baseball caps will all be on the table when he announces his commitment.

In the video above, hear what he has to say about the latest in recruiting.

DD Bowie interview from TideSports summarized by Magilla:

quote:

TideSports:

*Committed in June, has not been back to campus. Has visited Ole Miss and MSU though.
*Hasn't talked to the coaching staff in a while, but says he lost his phone.
*Plans on being there for the home opener, among other games.
*Thinks Bama will do well this year, though not as good as last year. Will watch their WRs.
*Bama is recruiting him as a WR, while MSU has talked to him about DB too.
*Has no preference, but likes WR.
*Talking to Bama, Ole Miss, and MSU. Every since he committed, the latter schools haven't given up/
*Still deciding where he wants to go to college. Committed to Bama because of Billy Napier, but likes how Ole Miss and MSU are like home.

That about sums up most Mississippi kids we go after. Why even commit? Hopefully Napier isn't going anywhere, because I like this kid.

Talked about 5 prospects:
Darnay Holmes QB to Stanford
Foster Sarrell. OT to Washington
Marvin Wilson.DT to Texas
DeAngelo Gibbs.CB to Georgia
Dylan Moses.LB to LSU

These are predictions from their recruiting analyst Tyler Donahue.Alabama maybe in the picture for Moses and Wilson per him.

The quarterback pecking order is largely set at this point in the 2016 recruiting cycle. Recruiting analysts at all the major networks have logged their opinions ad nauseam on whom they feel posses the best quarterback skill sets in the country and those opinions aren't likely to change dramatically during senior campaigns.

quote:

Alabama commit Jalen Hurts
Strengths:
The scout called Hurts a "playground style athlete" in the way he operates in the pocket. Hurts is another one that plays the quarterback position with a point guard mentality. He's non-conventional but can get the play made. In that sense, the scout sees Hurts "surviving" plays because of that athleticism. Watching the film, the scout felt that Hurts' style fits a TCU or Auburn style system. He called him similar to a Nick Marshall in skill set.

Concerns:
Hurts looked raw to the scout on film. While he liked his playmaking ability, the polish is not there yet.

Note: Based on what we saw at the Elite 11 camps over the summer, Hurts has a chance to put a much more polished product on the field as a senior because of the strides he's made developmentally.

Demetris Robertson will not visit Stanford this weekend. Good news IMO.
