We know Tennessee is a true contender on that list. Georgia is as well. Throw Alabama and Auburn in there too. It could stop there.
You do not want to rule anyone out — especially with a prospect as talented as Hardman Jr. because he can go where he wants, but the schools at the top right now at likely Georgia and Tennessee with everyone else playing catch-up.
The Vols at one time were the clear frontrunner for the star out of Elberton (Ga.) Elbert County and he will be back in Knoxville (Tenn.) this weekend to watch UT practice. Tennessee wants Hardman as a slot and he is dynamic with the ball in his hands.

It's AU. He'll want to be there b/c his brother was there (the synergy of that) and b/c his brother is on staff there now. He'd feel like that's where mom would want him if I had to guess...that and he probably genuinely likes it at AU and like Muschamp.

Alabama has a need at wide receiver in the class of 2016 and about a dozen blue chip talents remain in the running to fill its spots.

The Alabama Crimson Tide has dealt with considerable turnover at the wide receiver position this fall, with the departures of Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White and Christion Jones to the NFL since the 2014 season ended. Youth has been expected to step up and it has to this point of fall camp.

Despite the gap in production between the 2014 and the 2015 group in Tuscaloosa, the expectation remains the same. On top of that, would it surprise many if one of the elder wideouts emerged and tested the NFL waters themselves after a breakout 2015?

The combination of inexperience and upperclassmen when projecting the 2016 and 2017 rosters in T-town have created a continued need at the position on the recruiting front. BamaMag.com has an update on the wide receiver progress in the cycle as UA looks to sign two, three or possibly more pass-catchers come national signing day 2016.

COMMITTED
The in-state star and reigning Class 6A state champion jumped on his Alabama offer seemingly moments after it was extended in February and T.J. Simmons has been all ‘Bama since. He’s helped recruit for UA while focusing on his senior season at Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville, where he’ll again team with dual-threat quarterback Ty Pigrome and elite junior wide receiver Nico Collins on a path to terrorize Yellowhammer State defenses. The solid possession talent has still flown somewhat under the radar despite his Crimson Tide commitment, but will likely retain his throne as the best wide receiver in the state’s senior class anyway.

One of the top wide receiver-defensive back talents in the 2016 class is Scout100 athlete Trevon Diggs. He’s long held Alabama in high regard and still calls Nick Saban’s program his public leader despite hometown Maryland, where his brother and current Minnesota Viking Stefon Diggs starred, looming. LSU and a few other programs remain in contention but most, including Scout National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn, envision a ‘Bama-UMD battle for one of the DMV’s best. Dohn predicted Alabama as the winner for Diggs’ services just last week.

CAVIN RIDLEY

Analysis: Big, physical wide receiver who looks like a linebacker. Very physical at the line and tough to jam. May not text well, but plays fast and can explode off the line. Consistently gets behind coverage and can get over defenders. Has very strong hands and catches most footballs within reach. Can adjust to the ball and can get yards after catch. Not a lot of wiggle, more straightline speed, and needs to improve route running.

The younger brother of Alabama freshman wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who has been living up to his five-star billing in camp, Cavin Ridley (pictured, top of story) has been as familiar with Tuscaloosa as any other city over the last few years. He was back in town this summer for camp and he turned just as many heads as big brother did in his prep career. However, the home state Florida Gators have remained a true threat to the Tide and the back-and-forth decision could push his commitment timetable closer to the end of the fall. Ridley originally wanted to make a summer decision. UA will be in it and the likely leader all the way through the process.

Another player with a close connection on the UA roster is Patterson (La.) star Mykel Jones, who played with and remains close to ‘Bama frosh wide receiver Daylon Charlot. The two have been in close contact since Charlot moved east in May and Jones was able to shadow him during an intimate visit last month. He has since released a top group with Alabama at the very top of the list. But Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL this spring, says he’s in no rush to make the final call.

Like Ridley, Salomon wanted to make a decision before his senior season began. But the Miami (Fla.) Central star has been quiet since The Opening, where he maintained Alabama as his leader with a seemingly pending commitment expected in July. UA’s wide receiver numbers are plentiful at the prospect level for 2016, so could Soloman end up being the odd-man out should other leans go through with a somewhat expected commitment to Alabama? Either way, he has long said he’d take all five of his official visits and could end up being a late decider no matter what commitment list he soon, or not so soon, resides within.

OTHER TARGETS

Analysis:
Whatever you want Hardman to do - he can. And he can do it fast. One of the most explosive prospects in the 2016 class. What a burst he has when he gets the football. He is so good on offense, but could he be even better as a corner? He is a legit candidate to play both ways on the next level due to his size, athleticism, and skill-set. He is very similar to Terry Godwin in 2015 with the ability to play anywhere.

One of the top athletes in America regardless of position, Mecole Hardman Jr. can do it all on the edge of the football field. He showcased each side of the football at The Opening in July and was among the best at both wide receiver and cornerback. UA is currently recruiting him on offense, but has ground to make up with him being on campus just once to this point. However, Hardman has hinted at taking an official visit to Alabama this fall.

A current Miami commitment, Ahmmon Richards took his first trip to Tuscaloosa last week and enjoyed his first experience to the point where he has already declared Alabama as one of his official visit destinations. Scout’s Corey Bender shares more.

Former Alabama commitment Demetris Robertson remains high on the program despite being back on the market. Stanford and Georgia are also major players for his pledge, but nothing seems imminent in the process for one of Georgia’s top talents. Robertson is most comfortable at Alabama and has recently reiterated that UA’s pursuit of him has never slowed despite shifts in his plan.

OTHER TARGETS

Summer emerger A.J. Brown, now a member of the Scout100, maintains that Alabama is the program recruiting him the hardest despite playing at Starkville (Miss.) High in the shadows of the Mississippi State Bulldogs’ facilities. He’s been coy about true favorites of late, but UA, MSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Cal and others have been frequently mentioned. Brown is expected to take his time in making a decision.
