It helps that Harris is (seemingly) as good as advertised.

All 24 of the predictions for Lawrence's 247Sports Crystal Ball point to LSU, but Lawrence tweeted that Ohio State, Alabama, Washington and UCLA also made his top five. Look for these other four programs to make a legitimate run for Louisiana's top-ranked player.

Here are some early odds for Lawrence's top five.

Alabama (3-1)

If LSU doesn't sign Lawrence, look for Alabama to be a leader in the race. Lawrence has said on several occasions that Alabama is a place where he can see himself playing.

Lawrence teaming with 4-star defensive tackles Kendell Jones Jr. and Raekwon Davis would give the Crimson Tide a menacing front line. Defensive line coach Bo Davis and wide receivers coach Billy Napier are hoping to score the coveted Neville High School prospect.

Alabama started slow out of the gates with its 2016 recruiting class. If they can get Lawrence, look for the Crimson Tide to compete for the top spot in the team rankings.

Alabama will likely sign the No. 1 running back in America in 2017.

The debate however, is that Najee Harris, the current No. 1 or Cam Akers, who committed last Tuesday and checks in at No. 3 according to 247Sports.

Harris is your big, tall, upright runner at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds that tacklers just seem to bounce off of and he never loses stride. Harris isn’t shake and bake, but he can make a cut at the line of scrimmage and find his top-end speed quickly, and he can also make a DB miss downfield. Good feet, and obviously good balance.

Akers is perhaps the most well-rounded running back in the country. He has has football speed. A very exciting player as a runner and wildcat quarterback on the prep level, there’s some violence to this young man when he’s carrying the football, he can get to the edge and around the corner with ease. Similar to Harris, he’s a big-play waiting to happen when he’s toting the rock, and also like Harris, he’s very hard to get on the carpet. Then you just like the fact that he’s a two-way player, a violent hitter at linebacker and a guy that can cover. A true football player. Hard-nosed. Last but certainly not least, Akers can catch the football.

Actually heard DrewD speak to a group last night. I knew that the coaching staff felt like Quinnen Williams was a big-time sleeper and held him in high regard. I didn't realize that they viewed him as just slightly below Rashan Gary in terms of talent level. They think Williams has a chance to be special.

Also, we have a real shot at Dexter Lawrence.

The options at DL this year... breathtaking.

Sounds good, but are you sure he wasn't speaking to a home crowd? ie. Williams's local area.

Nah, it was up in the Madison/Huntsville/Athens/Decatur area. About 100 miles from Williams' area. I know Drew fsirly well. He's not going to just say that unless it's legit.

I also believe Trevon Diggs recently privately committed based on something Drew said.

Cavin Ridley apparently put on a show for our coaches a couple weeks ago. Sounds like he and AJ Brown are the top 2 WR targets now.

On a non-recruiting note, Barnett has been clearly the best QB so far. Things might get VERY interesting as we get closer to September.

I know all of you negative nabobs will say that you don't think it's good if we start a true freshman at QB. And I'd agree with you. But he sure enough looks like he's going to be the best one to come through Tuscaloosa in a long long time before it's all said and done. He's really wowing people down there. Athleticism, ability to learn quickly, leadership, "it" factor. He has those things in spades.

If he shows out at the scrimmages and the others don't, I can believe he'll start. Right now it feels like camp hype though, but that's mostly because Saban never plays true freshmen at QB. If Barnett is clearly the best player with the most talent, hopefully he plays.

We've never had a freshman qb in the Saban area with that skill set at that level of his development.

IDGAS if he's a freshman in HS. If the kid can play at a higher level and more consistently than the others, give him the ball.

I was saying this for a while now. If we really push hard he would be ours. The feeling by his coaches are though that we are not because of Gary and R Lawrence. I hope this one does not come back to bit us if Gary ends up at UM and R Lawrence stays home at LSU and this kid ends up in the ACC.

Put the best player on the field. If it is Barnett so be it. The defense should be able to carry this team and on offense if we can run the ball any QB will have time to develop in our system. Just hope the OL comes to play and is nasty in the trenches

From Ryan Bartow:
quote:

I was in position to place a Crystal Ball for five-star No. 1 offensive tackle Gregory Little (Allen, Tex.) following his Texas A&M de-commit. Over the weekend the buzz has risen on Ole Miss, enough to hold off the pick for now.

The confidence level, relayed from Little’s camp, remains high on Alabama’s end as this continues to be an SEC battle between the Tide and Rebels going forward.

quote:

Another member of Alabama’s No. 1 ranked 2015 recruiting class that’s showing out early on just as much has been five-star defensive tackle Daron Payne.

Per a source, Payne like Fitzpatrick and Ridley will play right away and be factored into the game plan from the get-go

Haven't been keeping up with this class a whole lot. VERY early and a LOT can change, but how are we looking for Gary and Little? I noticed we led on the CB percentage for them and IIRC they're the top two composite players.
