Why are we doing it the same weekend as Dawg Night if we are trying to attract the top talent, most of which will be at DN?

Probably to catch some Friday night traffic from travelling recruits.

One sounds last second, one is a known institution. They had some recruits coming in, so hey let's slap a name on it...

I wish it would have stayed where it was an Alabama/TAMU battle. I'm much more comfortable with those battles.

Out of the blue here...

Years ago My friend and I would occasionally say if he's too slow for the d'line move him to the O'line.

Part of this thought came from the Darren Lake comments.

I think it take more time and many reps with an offensive lineman not to mention he must know his blocking assignment on every single play or it can be more costly than a defensive lineman who has several guys behind him to make the tackle.

So to tie this in with recruiting could you take a guy who most project as a D'tackle and create a very good offensive lineman out of him? I think so if he's ready to make a strong commitment to that side of the ball.

Is the slow plodding but technically sound offensive lineman why we see fewer toss sweeps as we used to, or is it the H-back tight end that's more critical?

I loved the game where Bobby Humphrey ran wild using toss sweeps against tennessee that year.

PS. I was asked to make a comment in the recruiting thread but have no knowledge of who's going to be a great player. I couldn't for the life of me understand why we recruited a couple of 3 stars in the past that turned out to be our best players.

Demeco Ryans comes to mind.

Is this not comparable to using the Bama camps to evaluate a player before making him a committable offer?

The difference being that the coaches are much more qualified to making decisions about players based on one setting than the recruiting analysts. It's comical how unqualified a majority of these analysts are. You have some who were covering hockey a few years ago, while others have never so much as played high school football.

You also see the total spectrum of being reactionary. This kid was a five star before the camp, and now he isn't in the top 500? It makes it seem like their ranking wasn't reliable to begin with if one camp can move a kid from a five star to a three star.

I have personally thought every single recruiting service has not even 1 quality evaluator but just try to see who the big boys are recruiting along with who the high school coaches promote.
When I watch even the 5 star kids, if you can get an accurate video of whole games many disappoint me in some way or look no better than a kid s highlights who is not even rated.

I'm obviously too critical and very unaccomplished at evaluation along with seeing far too few games in person at the high school level.

I trust in the network Alabama has in place.

There is almost no way to judge a kids will to work for the wins for most of us.
