Daylon Mack and Daron Payne are both getting a lot of praise from the defensive line coaches. They are doing rip drills

@ccbama: J arran Reed said at Media Day he plans to return to Alabama next year. He's modeling the playoff jersey. LINK

@_DCReeves: DJ Pettway told me he will 100 percent be back at Alabama in 2015.

This class of defensive tackles is super big -- nine out of the top 10 are close to or more than 300 pounds -- but they can really move and that means they all have a chance to be special. Five-star Daron Payne and plenty of four-stars, including Terry Beckner Jr., Christian Wilkins and Shy Tuttle had impressive performances on the first day of practice. The position is loaded in this recruiting class, so strong showings are expected to continue through the week. What is most impressive about this group is that they are massive and they can also move and make plays. They're not just run-stuffers. They can get in the backfield and track down the ball.

Another story that we tried to chase on Monday was Patterson (La.) receiver Daylon Charlot and his stance on whether he was still committed to Alabama.

Charlot eluded that chase by all of the media outlets at Under Armour as he dipped off the practice field on the opposite side of the media and avoided interviews.

He is going to have to take a stand on whether he is or isn’t committed, and right now the feeling is he does not want to answer that question.

I still feel like Charlot is leaning to Alabama, but those in his camp are really pushing LSU and he is struggling with making the call.

We’ll see what comes out over the course of the week.

Iman Marshall was fantastic. That was expected, since the Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star is the top-rated cornerback in the class. But Marshall is going to be pushed by many others throughout the week because on Day 1, there were plenty of outstanding performances at that position. Five-star Alabama commit Minkah Fitzpatrick, five-star LSU pledge Kevin Toliver II, Ohio State commit Eric Glover-Williams and a few others stood out. Marshall is still the best so far, but there were plenty of strong showings on Day 1.

The quarterbacks, a group that was thought to be very strong, were underwhelming on Day 1. The Team Armour quarterbacks got off to a slow start and found it difficult to adjust to the speed of their wide receivers. At just a shade over 6-foot-1, Rivals100 Notre Dame commit Brandon Wimbush looks like a giant standing next to Rivals100 Texas A&M commit Kyler Murray and Rivals250 Florida State commit De'Andre Johnson. Wimbush was overthrowing receivers and Murray was under-throwing them. Five-star Alabama pledge Blake Barnett struggled with accuracy as well. It looked like the ranginess of all of the defensive backs made it tough for the quarterbacks to find open receivers in 7-on-7 and team drills.

More media day stuff:

@Mark_Schlabach: Injured #Bama RB Kenyan Drake told me he's started light jogging in New Orleans & expects to be ready by spring game

@TheHoundztooth: RT @Marq_Burnett: Kenyan Drake said he's given no thought to leaving school early. Said the plan has always been to get his degree first.

@Marq_Burnett: Alabama freshman QB David Cornwell told me he has no plans of transferring. Said he's going to stick it out cause he believes in the process

@COKirkpatrick: Saban asked by NY reporter about Jets job/complete control: his response"Let's start by saying I have no interest in any NFL situation"

I have heard nothing to suggest this. This is the crap I hate by these sites. They just want to stir up crap.

Hentges and McGraw both. The other DBs seem to get more coverage but McGraw I think can see the field very early.

Yeah I read that and wanted to throw something at that Burnett dude. What a fricking moronic thing to ask a true freshman quarterback coming off an injury.
