Shagnasty No excuse for Miller not to be in that game way sooner. The guy runs like a wild boar with it’s arse on fire.

He can’t pass protect yet.

I’m not a BY fanboy, but he probably wanted to finish like he did….and he earned it. All of them did.

We are gonna be screwed next year without him.

I don't recall if they were or not.

I get that as fans we have our opinions and thoughts, but it is important that we remember that the coaches are there every day and it is their full-time job to know everything about the team and which players will best help it to win. We can rest assured that the coaches are seeking to give the team the best chance to win both today and tomorrow.

Sometimes that might mean giving preference to seniority. Even Bryant said that if two guys were close, he went with seniority as a reward for loyalty and hard work.

It would be incredibly harmful to the long-term stability of the team to replace guys who've been around and put in the work with some new guy who maybe has slightly better talent. Yes, you want guys having to watch their backsides, but at the same time you have to balance things out for the sake of morale and future loyalty.

Then there are other dynamics, such as the Jalen Hurts situation. Tua was the better player we know. But, Jalen was the reigning SEC Freshman of the year as a QB. The guy did win a lot of games. If you replace him the next year with a freshman sensation, who is for all intents-and-purposes a white kid, holy mackerel you would have a crap show ensue. That's just the reality of things. The media would have piled on, the garbage hot-takes would have seeped into the locker room and the team would have absolutely blown up. There would have been no title that year.

Being a successful head coach is much more than plugging in the best players. There are diplomacy matters too. This is why many good coordinators can't win as head coaches. It is more than Xs and Os. It is about leading men.

Couple weeks of practice/Big12 team/no playoff pressure. Last one being huge.

My one criticism of Saban is wanting until 3:00 on the clock to put guys in or not playing them at all. Seems young guys would get discouraged.

Of all the things we bitch about as fans, I feel this argument has the most merit.

I have no idea Saban's rationale, but have always blamed it on his NFL mindset. I really wish he would do a better job of playing skill position players earlier in games. Especially later in the season.

Some of us are old enough to remember when Coach Bryant would have the entire second-team offense in the game on the third series, no matter what, come hell or high water.

And that's why in 1979, on his only undefeated team of the seventies, he started a QB who was a veteran coming into the season, yet who had never actually started a game.
