At least Penix threw to them

Hold on, there's another tackled at the LOS pass covered in the flats

Also the Unofficial Assistant Coaches dude speaks an awful lot of truth

This. Coach P has been riding Jalen’s arse the entire season when he screwed up. He was quick to praise but just as quick to criticize when things didn’t go right.

Guy, I think most of you have some truths in your arguments. In other words, there is plenty of blame to go around.

Rees: hard to say if he is good or bad. He had his moments of both. He was very slow to adjust the play calling to account for what the offense could and couldn’t do well. It shouldn’t have taken from Spring practice to game 3 to figure out our strengths and weaknesses and go from there. Still, when he finally did adjust, he did a decent job for the most part. Not great, he has plenty of growing to do but if he does, he’s certainly workable.

Our problem on O starts with a converted guard playing center who apparently never felt comfortable there and never embraced the job. If he had, he would have learned how to fix the snap problem somehow over the last 2 seasons. If he just can’t do it, then he needed to tell the coaches that. And the coaches saw the same thing we did, why is he still in there? Job #1 for a center is getting the ball to the QB correctly. If you can’t do that, you can’t play center. Period.
Making a green, jittery QB that has processing issues play shortstop to field the snap before even starting his progressions is a recipe for disaster. A recipe made even worse when he doesn’t have an internal shot clock and can’t feel pressure coming to save his life. And when this QB has consistently shown he cannot a) read a blitz and/or b) throw a hot route to take advantage of the blitz and c) can’t consistently throw short to intermediate balls with or without pressure, the defense has you by the short hairs. The teams that figured it out played a two level defense against Alabama: bring more than they can block most of the time to pressure Milroe while leaving a spy in case he escapes the pocket. Emphasize deep coverage and the closer to the LOS a receiver is, the less attention he draws. The middle level was left wide open more often than not but we couldn’t take advantage of it. Milroe throws a beautiful deep ball. His running ability and improvisation is off the charts. But you can’t design an offense around those things if there are gaping holes in his ability to read and throw short and intermediate, especially the hot routes with a blitz in your face.
The run game was very forgettable and just a token this year. Nobody worried about Jace and Roydell going off for 150 yards with a couple of long TD runs. Did nothing to help the passing game and play action. That has to and should change this year with Jam and Justice taking over the backfield.
That’s assuming the OL gets their shite together and gets an attitude. I’ve never seen a more intimidating looking set of blockers that were so passive and beatable. The physical tools are there. They just need to get a Dickerson attitude and some Barrett Jones football smarts and pave the way. Milroe definitely caused his share of sacks but the OL had their fair share of just getting their arse whipped and there’s no excuse for that. It either needs to change or the coaches need to be changed. It’s that simple. Those
guys are physically capable of moving a mountain in front of them but they play scared.

Our offense was summed up in the last play of the Rose Bowl. It was a microcosm of the year. A bad snap from center caused the QB to panic and forget the play design, which was really a very basic RPO with only 2 choices, while the RT was put on roller skates and pushed completely back into the backfield causing the QB, who had fielded the bad snap and took off without reading to trip over his leg and fall into the pile before he could cut left and walk into the end zone.

Gotta lot of work to do on that side of the ball. I’d put OL coach on notice that either he produces some pissed off bulldozers this year or he can go back to Kentucky. Interested to see if a new WR coach can get the talent in that WR room separating from DB’s more to make Milroe’s job easier. And interested to see how Rees adjusts his thinking with a full season under his belt.

Still comparing Penix vs Michigan against Milroe vs Michigan I see...who gives a shite. It's irrelevant.

Milroe is still the same guy regardless of what Penix has done. He still needs to make the same improvements.

Let's hope he does.

Michigan had 28 sacks through 12 games as a team. They had 4 in their championship game, 6 vs BAMA (most of any game they played), and 1 vs Wash. 28 sacks on the regular season makes them tied with Florida Atlantic and one LESS than Navy. They ended the season with 39 which tied them for 14th.

To blame the o-line and not the QB for the sacks allowed, is pretty stupid. Especially since there are almost 50 teams with as many or more sacks than Michigan through the regular season.

USF had 5 sacks against us, and they are ranked 95th in sacks. I'm not sure what you are trying to argue. Everyone pretty much agrees that Milroe held the ball for too long a lot of the time, but our Oline was also very bad.

You got it.

The point is, whether it's Michigan or USF, when a defense knows they don't have to worry about the qb because said qb is inept, the o-line can do very little to stop the pass rush. No matter who is blocking, or who is being blocked.

Milro sucks, he can not read a defense dude. He has no clue of what a hot read is. Saban should have just run the Wildcat and not passed the whole game, we win that game easier. You can not have a QB who can't read defenses in modern day football.
