Well the same group was not a great defensive team the year before or under Avery, so I'm not sure what you mean.
We play defense when we have a good roster of defenders. We don't have a great roster of athletic defenders this year and we don't seem to have a lot of internal player leadership.

Is our team that athletic? A handful of the guys are, but guys getting major minutes don’t stick out as stellar athletes.
Shack is a mediocre athlete at this level. JQ is fast but has no strength and is a mediocre jumper. Gurley stinks.
It’s not like Davidson was lumbering around and making shots. They were quicker than us all game.

Not overly athletic, but way more athletic than Davidson is. A lot of defense isn't just athleticism though. It's taking appropriate angles and staying disciplined on closeouts. This team has a long way to go in that regard.

Went to the game and had a good time. Good seats for $12 I think. Lines were terrible but the renovation looked good.
Disappointed in our defense tonight but that’s nothing new this year. Somewhat fortunate we were able to come back and make it close.
I don’t see much use in melting over a loss in December. And to whoever said it was like going back to the Grant days, give me a damn break.

We were indeed beat off the dribble a lot. Said that in my initial post. It's also in the part of that post that you left out.

Because we were given a choice of being great at one. Basketball or Football. If we were great at both then the balance of the universe would be thrown off and chaos would ensue. its the only logical explanation.

We were 5-3, unranked, and playing a much easier non-conference schedule going into SEC play last year; we won the SEC and made the Sweet 16. We’re 9-3 at the same point this year with two huge wins against Final Four teams from last year and the losses were not to bad teams; unless we just fold during SEC play, the NCAA tournament is still within very reasonable reach…
