Alabama softball signee Kennedy Marceaux was announced as the 2023-24 Gatorade Louisiana Softball Player of the Year on Friday by the Gatorade Player of the Year program.

As a senior at Kaplan High School in Kaplan, La., Marceaux batted .615 with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs, leading her team to the state tournament quarterfinals. The shortstop also scored 65 runs and collected 14 doubles, six triples and 25 stolen bases. She finished her prep career with 83 home runs and is ranked at No. 7 in Extra Inning Softball's Class of 2024 rankings.

An incoming freshman for next year's Crimson Tide softball squad, Marceaux was also recently selected to participate in the PGF High School All-American game alongside future Alabama teammates Mari Hubbard (Huntsville, Ala.) and Audrey Vandagriff (Bogart, Ga.).

This may be why our current SS is portalling out? Seems to be the leader in the clubhouse before stepping on campus. I like the trade.

No.

Cahalan was the #1 player in the country for her class.

This young lady coming in will be playing for Murphy who can't develop for shite offensively.

I think Cahalan figured him out quickly like Sky did. She had a good freshman season and then regressed as a hitter.

This young lady is a natural infielder though so it wouldn't shock me if she starts.

Murph got me upvoting Joka out here. That's where we're at.

It’s been pretty quiet on the portal front. Softball portal (to enter) closes on 6/17. Have seen several posts about Ole Miss transfer Jaila Lassiter visiting Bama this upcoming weekend. Sounds like a good pickup if it comes to be.

The Pupillo announcement

quote:

Alabama softball added a big bat to its lineup in rising junior Alexis Pupillo, who joins the Crimson Tide after two successful seasons at Northern Iowa.

Seeing time as a catcher and outfielder with the Panthers, Pupillo is a two-time NFCA All-Region selection with a .382 career batting average (107-for-280), 35 home runs and 98 RBIs. She was ranked in D1Softball's Top 100 player rankings following each of her two years at UNI and was the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native was twice named to the MVC All-Tournament team and is a two-time First Team All-MVC honoree.

Pupillo is the fifth newcomer slated to join #Team29 in the fall of 2024 alongside incoming freshmen Braya Hodges (P – Dothan, Ala.), Mari Hubbard (IF – Huntsville, Ala.), Kennedy Marceaux (IF – Kaplan, La.) and Audrey Vandagriff (OF – Bogart, Ga.). Alabama looks to return 12 players from its 2024 Women's College World Series team.

The good news is, she’s a pitcher and we need pitchers. She’s got SEC experience which is also a plus. Not sure where she ranks in the hierarchy just yet.

I knew Stephanie had a rough go at Memphis (won 14 games total across two seasons). Not thrilled to see her in Gainesville.

Well, the portal window (at least to enter) has closed and the forecasted “mass exodus“ turned out to be Kenleigh Cahalan. Not minimizing that loss but the team wasn’t eviscerated by departing players. Can still fill open spots from players already in the portal so the roster is not yet complete.
