Rat poison warning: the fatal kind, not the yummy kind

One Simple Stat Demonstrates the Difference Between Alabama and Cincinnati (SI)

The Bearcats should be applauded for reaching the College Football Playoff, but that doesn't mean they're on par yet with the giants like the Crimson Tide.

After watching the Notre Dame highlights, it's apparent just how shitty the ND quarterback situation is. They gave the game away. Cincinnati had some pressures that affected them but if we can keep Bryce upright and he can use his legs we should be okay. Also, when was the last time we gave up multiple touchdowns to a single back this year ? Even Georgia didn't have a rushing TD against us.

GMac said (last week) that Cincinnati is a big team, like the Big 10 teams, but they are not as fast as Alabama. He said while the two corner backs are both tall and athletic, they are not burners. So he thinks Williams will still be a problem for them. They are a veteran and extremely well coached team per Gmac. He predicted the score would still be close going into the 4th qtr but Ala would win by a comfortable score in the end. He thinks the question is how they will deal with Alabama's team speed.

From the SI article

quote:

The best option for the Bearcats is probably to go man with the corners, stack the box, try to gang-tackle everything that moves and hope for some turnovers. It's a formula that's worked well for them.

With Metchie and Williams I would say that playing a lot of man defense would be a bad idea even with Cincinnati’s two NFL rated corners. However with Metchie out they could potentially try this strategy with free safety help shifted to the guy trying to cover Williams.

Either way if they can’t stop the run without stacking the box then eventually BY will make them pay over the top.
