What I got from your link was this gem: "Also in January, the Ducks suspended strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde without pay for a month after grueling workouts led to three players being hospitalized."

Wow.

Not OC related, but some guy on Rivals is saying Joe Pannunzio was offered the TE/special teams coaching job and should accept Monday.

No problem. We've been including stuff about potential non-OC staff hires (including him) in this thread. Not surprising. Aaron Suttles recently reported that he's expected to accept it if offered. Does the poster have a sauce or cred?

Some old guy that usually posts tidbits so just another guy with a "source." He's been right a few times on stuff.

Wow.

Yeah. I had read about that some. It really brings that guy's competence into question. I had not heard of that condition before, but it seems knowledgeable professional trainers should know of it and be ensuring they don't overwork guys to the point of risking detrimental effects, and especially dangerous ones such as that.

We're fortunate to have Cochran.

LOL David Reaves is a disaster. He was the one in the center of the Kiffin/Tennessee girls sexing high schoolers thing. And he's Layla Kiffins brother if I remember correctly.

Yeah, I was joking.

I doubt Reaves' benefits/risk ratio warrants consideration for even an analyst position.

LINK ]Former Alabama QB Freddie Kitchens being groomed for Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator job
quote:

In late January, Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians made several changes to his coaching staff.

Among them, former Alabama quarterback Freddie Kitchens moved from quarterbacks to running backs coach after the departure of Stump Mitchell, who held the position previously. And the reason for that, Arians said, is because Kitchens is being groomed for a promotion as the “coordinator-in-waiting.”

“It’s another step for Freddie to become a coordinator,” Arians said.

Kitchens was Alabama’s starting quarterback from 1995-97. He threw for 4,668 yards and 30 touchdowns and ranked third in school history in career passing attempts, fourth in career passing yards and fifth in career completions at the time of his departure.

During his coaching career, Kitchens has served as the Cardinals’ quarterbacks coach the last four seasons and previously was the tight ends coach under former Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt. He also spent time as a tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys (2006), a tight ends and running backs coach at Mississippi State (2005-06), running backs coach at North Texas (2001-03) and a graduate assistant at LSU (2000).

“It’s natural for Freddie to take over another position and expand his coaching resume because he’ll be a coordinator soon,” Arians said.

Arians has publicly groomed his assistants to get them better jobs in the past. Former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles now is the head coach of the New York Jets. Offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin has become a serious candidate for several coaching jobs, which could lead to Kitchens’ promotion.

Freddie was a UA OC candidate Saban considered when Lane was hired.

LINK ]The Comeback Story Of Freddie Kitchens
quote:

On the day he wasn't sure if he would die, Freddie Kitchens was taking photos on his cell phone.

He was in a helicopter, flying to Arizona Heart Hospital across town. The reality was clear. The quarterbacks coach of the Cardinals had suffered an aortic dissection while heading to the practice field that morning . Many in his situation wouldn't have even made it that far.

Kitchens knew what he was up against and he didn't. He knew his life was in serious danger but admits now he didn't fully understand the scope of the problem until after the surgery he was about to endure. His doctor said Kitchens was "cool as a cucumber" prior to the surgery, even as those around him were being told Kitchens' chances at survival were around 25 percent... LINK

I'd be ok with Kitchens. Not at all flashy, but I'd take him over Daboll and Godsey. Only real question is recruiting/appeal, will he be able to attract players?

And the fact that has already been laid out, would he jump back to the NFL to take the Cardinals' OC job when it opens?

Freddie is a childhood friend of mine. We sang a song in a talent show together. I could tell you some stories about his dad.

I'm starting to think Eric Kiesau will be Bama's next OC or Co-OC & QB coach. I think Saban's been considering other options, but that Kiesau has been at or near the top of his board all along. I think it may be announced very soon.

Any reasoning behind it?

Kiesau worked as analyst at Bama for a year, closely with Lane, responsible for converting to his no-huddle & terminology system. Played QB, solid QB & WR position coach. Position coach, passing game coordinator and OC experience -- under Chris Petersen, Jeff Tedford, Dan Hawkins, Steve Sarkesian, Charlie Weiss.

Liked and sought to learn and adopt Saban's coaching & organizational philosophies while at Bama. Hawkin's OC at Colorado, Sark's OC at UW, and OC & interim HC at Fresno St. Now WR coach at Boise St., for only a month or so. Good OC results at UW, less than stellar results at Colorado & Fresno attributable to lack of player talent. Justin Wilcox (new HC at Cal.) recently came very close to hiring him as OC.

Kiesau knows Bama's culture, athletic dept., coaches, offensive system & terminology -- smooth transition. Good/right acumen & experience, age/maturity level. Should be able to improve our passing game performance. Tireless work ethic, both coaching & recruiting. Broad western recruiting experience & ties.

It appears Kiesau would like working for Saban and can/will do what Saban wants offensively, avoiding the need for arse chewings. Fairly likely to stick around for a few seasons, too. Overall, a solid choice and good fit -- seems well equipped to do what Sark was hired to do. All things considered, he's perhaps the best choice for what Saban likely feels he needs and wants.

Perhaps Kiesau is already the leader in the clubhouse and the reason Saban has only brought in one guy (Godsey) so far to interview. Kiesau would not even need to come in for an interview or to see what Bama is all about, since he already spent a year on Bama's staff.
