Its funny you guys don't recruit top SEC caliber athletes outside your borders

As I said, Brooks was hamstringed due to probation. Joker just wasn't a very good recruiter honestly. While Brooks had the occasional pipeline in the South (ironically had one at Stone Mountain, GA for a bit) he made his name on developing 3 star talent into a good enough team to compete and play in bowl games. He showed you can get bowl eligible with 3-star guys and had he had the support that Stoops has now (in terms of major facility upgrades and increase in coaching salaries) from the administration he could've built even further than that.

quote:

If Matt Elam is from Georgia you guys don't make his top 15 unless his other 14 offers are from the ACC and the SOCON.

Except he's not. He's from Kentucky. And Kentucky is finally showing a commitment among the administration to the football program in terms of upgrades, a good coaching hire, etc. This isn't Kentucky under CM.

quote:

You guys are an elite basketball program but any "success" you guys have ever had in football (and by success I mean being a C minus/D plus program) only comes from association with the other 11/13 SEC members.

So what if we use conference success as recruiting pitch? Not everybody has the traditional of Alabama Football. So we're supposed to just sit down and look pretty? Why are you so pissed off about Kentucky's recruiting anyway? It's not like Alabama won't have a top recruiting class either way.

Because we need an elite nose guard to compete at the level we do. You guys could take a 2 star guy and still shoot for the Music City Bowl. If you guys aren't going to commit to being an A program, attracting an A level athlete is just wasting his skills.

And because this is an Alabama recruiting thread, so f ck Kentucky that is why. I can say they are a sucky program because guess what? They are a sucky program. That is why I was against non bama fans posting here at all. It lets kentucky, ole miss, and state fans post about their "2nd favorite team".

Because you clearly don't have enough talent to compete. And kids at Kentucky clearly can't get to the NFL either.

ETA: That's fine that you feel that way about Kentucky. But, I figured I'd at least get some good, educated football discussion among some pretty good football fans over here. And no, Alabama isn't my "2nd favorite team". I do like to talk football and have a general respect for Bama though.

Again I stated a fact that Kentucky sucks yesterday, and you jumped on it. Why get so offended at the truth? You guys don't care about football you never have.

Was just addressing an obvious misconception as to why a recruit we have in common might decide to go to Kentucky. Sorry that you can't handle that I guess?

I know "why" a recruit would go to Kentucky not that is makes any sense for them other than being scared of competition. And before you balk, 90 percent of recruits list early playing time for why they choose someone.

Robert Nkemdiche didn't make Ole Miss better, I doubt Elam makes you guys better.

Alone? Probably not. But he'd be part of the best recruiting class Kentucky has ever had. 2nd team ALL-SEC DE Bud Dupree is also returning for his senior season as well as Za'Darius Smith who will be help on that side of the ball. No one is expecting him to do it alone. He'll also have a QB on the other side of the ball that'll keep our defense from being on the field the whole game (our biggest hurdle this season IMO). They'll be better.

I think you are missing something..not every recruit in the US thinks Bama is the place for them. No matter how much of a homer we are an think a kid will be all he can be if he only comes to Bama. Samford U has at least 2 former players in the NFL. His goal may be to play for the home state school and make them better and get to the NFL. I can assure you the NFL knows talent regardless of where they play. Jerry Rice played for a small mostly black school.

Of course not every recruit thinks Alabama is the place for them. But if they get down to a top 2 with us and a C level program and choose the other program it is either:

They were using us for publicity.

They didn't have a firm offer from us.

They want early playing time.

I have no doubt Elam likes the recruiting process. It's pretty well known here that he does. He's a good player though, he'd get publicity even if it wasn't us and y'all IMO.

We know that isn't the case here.

I have no problem conceding this is a large possibility. But truth be known there's a ton of other programs he could go to that would offer PT as a "football school".

Or we could just concede that maybe, just maybe, he wants to play for his home state school and be a Tim Couch type guy that brings some respectability to the program? Or that he feels more comfortable with UK's recruits and coaching staff (I know he's pretty close with UK commit Drew Barker)?

You are partially right. Elam is guaranteed to start day one at Kentucky. He is not at Bama. Do we need him? Yes. If he meets expectations will he be in heavy rotation? Absolutely. The kid may not want to take the chance, or may not want to deal with having to relocate his mom either. I want him bad as frick but I understand his decision. If we had a guy that could eat two blocks we would be headed to Pasadena, but oh well. Just do the best with what you have.

FWIW, from all accounts his Momma really likes Alabama. I don't think she'd mind relocating if he committed to Bama.

Well I hope we get him but there is so much guilt being thrown at him i seriously doubt it. Kid just wants to make people happy. He has the kind, gentle giant soul about him. He will do well where ever he goes.

I'm just a girl. With a bowless football team. Trying to have a football discussion and giddy that ALABAMA WANTS OUR RECRUIT.

FWIW, Elam had a radio interview the other day with KSR (one of the local Kentucky radio folks) in case anyone wants to listen in.

I don't know it's so much guilt as we genuinely want him. You said yourself, he's a total hoss on the line. Last kid we had like that who could make that kind of impact on our line was maybe Corey Peters or Jeremy Jarmon.

Sure glad this is a Bama board. Sure would hate for admins to support other teams posters over ours. That would just be stupid, even if you don't agree with a poster. E-friends rule this board, I see. Want Elam, to make it recruiting related. Would hate to have this have the fate of numerous pages about race, oh wait, nevermind.

But no one even answered the point I made. Did kids change so much in one generation? Watching the Texas/USC rose bowl today and USC pulled kids from basically anywhere they wanted during their run. No guilt kept guys away from them. We are still Alabama and Kentucky is still kentucky. How could we not guilt Chad Jackson but they can guilt Matt Elam?

People from California don't understand how I could prefer Alabama to California.

But I do.
