Yeah, the Rebs on Rivals are saying Hampton and Hootie definitely to OM. They are also saying they are close with Adams - who was thought an LSU lean.
Weird they would forgo NC's for lower tier bowls every year. Really is!

The appeal of building something might appeal to them more than just being plugged into a program that has already arrived. Just a thought. These kids think way different than we do.

Battles statement on Pettway
quote:
"One of our primary points of emphasis in college athletics is to make every effort to help develop the total person. As part of the University community, there is an obligation on the part of the student-athlete, the University and the Athletics Department in helping each person that represents us to reach their potential. On occasion, there are special circumstances that arise, particularly when a young person takes the first steps on their own to earn the privilege of attending our University. We treat every disciplinary case with care and sensitivity to all involved and we respect the University's procedures regarding punishment and readmission. We understand our responsibility, not only to the University and the student-athletes, but also to our community and our state."

Glad I never invested much time following this recruitment. Wonder which Miss. kid folks are going to wasted time on next year?

Maybe if they were in any way showing what they were building to it would make sense. If Freeze was a success at another program or had something you could point to. All we have is his slime ball characterization in the Blind Side novel and movie.

Possibly. The thing that makes me wonder though is why isn't Miss State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, etc. having similar success in recruiting? You'd think with the way that Franklin has Vandy going that they would sneak a couple of five stars if it was about rebuilding a program. I understand Hampton wanting to stay in MS, but the others have me puzzled.
I'm not accusing or anything, but if Miss State started recruiting at the level y'all are, what would you think?

Building something? Building what exactly? Ole Miss added a lot of top talent and they are no better than last year (in fact worse, 6th in division).
So what exactly is being built? A high quality team which falls very well short is the only answer that comes to mind.
My bad for lashing out

Miss State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky,
Their staffs arent as good at recruiting
Also Kentucky is putting together the best class in the history of the program.

Especially when the tail end of these "recruiting miracles" see State under Sherrill for example are followed by big time NCAA problems.

You don't think Franklin is a good recruiter? Based on his personality I'd say he would be very good.

How many five stars? (Besides the one from their home state being a definite possibility)

Wasn't Shaun Alexander from Kentucky? I can only ever remember UK missing out of instate goodies every year.

Just winning ball games.

The Ole Miss staff understands recruiting and isn't afraid to recruit big name guys that prior staffs wouldn't have even given themselves a chance to pick up.
I'm sure there have been $100 handshakes and the like but Ole Miss is an exciting program right now and the top recruits that committed last year and this year have an enthusiasm that is contagious.
All in all, we shall see what happens but to simply chalk Freeze's recruiting success up to under-the-table shenanigans is naive.

Franklin won't ever recruit top talent to Vandy for obvious reasons.

No not at all we didn't read the Blind Side at all did we? After all your current coach was portrayed so badly they changed his name.

I think he's a very good recruiter, but its hard to put together top classes when 70 percent of the recruit pool cant get in to your school

Ole Miss doesnt have any either

So let's pretend that Miss State fires Dan Mullen and brings in a coach that nobody knows. They suddenly start pulling in five star kids that the big programs were after, often times late in the recruitment when they weren't mentioned as a possibility for the longest time. Would you chalk it up to having a new and exciting program? What would be your response?

If you want to commend him for overachieving, you also have to point out how they underachieved this season.

Not being afraid to recruit big names or understanding how it works doesn't equate to what we're seeing. It is one thing to talk a big game, but results are what the sell is all about. Getting Robbie was a no-brainer because of Denzel and the hype of building a great NC caliber team.
That hype has dissipated with very poor on field results. Not to rub salt in wounds but you guys lost to MSU and are the 6th best team in the division... not conference.. but division. There is literally nothing to stand the ideology that things are on the rise or even that they will change.
I understand CJ's commitment even with the heavy flirtation and many visits to Tuscaloosa, but not Hootie. That one is bizarre and if this were MSU and not Ole Miss I'm sure you'd agree the same.
Anyways, enjoy the ride. As long as you guys don't impede our NC hopes (frick aubie) I'm good.
