So you think the numbers are going down because of masks? Not just a natural progression of the virus? You really think people in NY and NJ are wearing their masks more than others now?

You just insist on making this some party line/talking points issue don't you?

I guess you don't even know the history of each person's opinion and just go with what they say. Like I said in my post that you apparently didn't read all the way though, NO I DO NOT THINK THE MASK MANDATE IS THE BIGGEST REASON BEHIND THE CURRENT TREND.

I DO THINK THAT IF THE MASK MANDATE ISN'T FOLLOWED IN SCHOOLS THAT THE CURRENT DOWNWARD TREND WILL NOT CONTINUE.

The downward trend is mostly a part of the natural progression of the virus as the environment existed one week ago - but that environment has now been artificially altered by introducing large populations of previously geographically separated people into closed, indoor spaces. If those people don't exercise good judgement and wear masks in those spaces you WILL see increased numbers. In our ERs (Montgomery area), the docs and nurses don't walk into the room with our COVID transports wearing space looking gear anymore, but every one wears a mask. In a confined environment, masks make a massive difference. That's not political, it's just fact.

You REALLY need to try to look past whatever hangup you've got with anything you perceive to be supportive of a left leaning agenda and weigh statement based on what they actually say.

I did read your post. We have different beliefs. I believe if we would have opened a long time ago, you wouldn't have to be worried about this school situation.

If you are reading this and are one of those that fall into this category I just want you to know we love you and we will get through this. Keep fighting no matter what.

I don't know why I'm even bothering but I can't resist. Again, if you followed who posted what throughout this thing you'd know that I didn't support the closings at all. Not for one second.

Beliefs about March and April don't matter.

Heck, maybe you're right. Maybe if you had left everything open we'd be in the same place as Sweden now. That's quite possible.

It's also irrelevant because the closures did happen. All that matters is where we are now - and where we are now is that if you want to see a lockdown with no football and maybe no basketball let a whole bunch of kids catch COVID, bring it home, and drive those numbers back to were they were a few weeks ago.

I'd prefer to watch college football. I VERY MUCH prefer my daughter be allowed to continue her 5th grade education in as near a normal fashion in the classroom as she's doing right now. For that to happen, basic protections when among groups inside buildings must be utilized. There's not a single protection that's more effective than wearing a mask in those situations. That's simply fact.

Yup. The talk about a legitimate vaccine is laughable. It isn't gonna happen any time soon and probably never will. We are just delaying the inevitable at this point.

I respectfully disagree. We've got probably a half dozen viable vaccines now using several different technologies. But we haven't completed the testing to ensure they are effective AND safe, unlike Russia who just throws one out there and says it works, let's see if it's safe. At least one of them will be both. The problem will be determining how long it conveys immunity and convincing people to take a vaccine that everyone feels was done like a cram session before finals and producing enough doses to meet the demand.

I've got a sneaky feeling this will be at least an annual vaccine just like the flu vaccine to give Big Pharma a nice new revenue stream. There's probably a long lasting vaccine out there somewhere, but it will never make it.

300 students/staff quarantined in the Limestone County school system.

WAAY 31 News

Four students and two staff members in the Limestone County School System have tested positive for coronavirus, and more than 300 students are in quarantine.

So it looks like 6 positive tests have led to 300 being quarantined.

You don't have to believe this. Absolutely, 100%, we wouldn't be talking about this at all at this point if we hadn't overreacted to this virus.

Waiting for the MSM to chime in and tell us all how Trump was right about the cure being worse than the disease.

Many parents are back at work. What exactly do you think they've been doing with their kids? In my city (Hoover, AL), they're at daycare. Sending kids to school isn't changing anything about the current situation.

Mask mandates are nonsense. California has been under a mask mandate for months.

Come ride my truck. Don’t wear your mask in the back. We’ll see who catches it and who doesn’t.

I’ll send you a get well card.

I am not talking about masks in stores. I am not talking about the same 10 kids in a daycare. Neither of those have a very high risk of spreading corona or anything else. A full school is a different environment. If you can’t see the difference a simple mask can make in a group of 1,000 in a small hall there really isn’t much more that can be said.

I voted for Trump. I will vote for him again. I haven’t pulled the lever for a (D) at the statewide or national level in my entire life - and I’m 52 and started voting at 18.

This isn’t political, it is common sense for August 2020 in Alabama. It’s really sad that some of y’all won’t budge simply because you think it makes you look like a Biden supporter.

This statement doesn't make sense. Neither Trump nor Biden put Alabama under a mask order. Our Republican governor did that.

Nah.

Early COVID-19 test results for Alabama college students show low positivity rate

quote:

With a week left until classes begin at the University of Alabama System’s three campuses, the first numbers of COVID-19 reentry tests are available.

As of Wednesday morning, approximately 30,000 students had been tested either in person or through the mail-in kits. Of that group, 0.83 percent tested positive, a GuideSafe Entry Testing spokesperson told AL.com on Wednesday evening.

I will say the caveat to that statement the UA system put out is not everyone is back on campus yet. I'm guessing here, but I'd say 50% or so have moved in. They really spread move-in out this year to account for the virus and social distancing. So kids with a reason to go back early like rush, camp 1831, band, etc. are back, but there are many kids that aren't. In other words, these tests were done mostly at home, all over the country. Now we're going to stuff over 40,000 kids within just a couple of square mile of campus. Alabama is starting from a good place, but there's going to be a spike. The question becomes can they control and contain that spike. I hope they can. I've got skin in the game.

At some point we all have to reasonably assume we've come into contact with it. It's been in our country for almost 10 months now.

We have 5 million confirmed cases in the United States. 55 million more to go to catch up to the Swine Flu of 2009.

Saint, best estimates are for every detected case, there are 6-10 undetected ones. Swine flu? We're there.

Is it healthy to use Hand sanitizer on your face? It’s become a habit for me, everytime I get in my truck I sanitize my hands and use some to sanitize my face too

It's not healthy to use hand sanitizer as much as everyone is using it currently, regardless.

It's not more unhealthy to use it on your face.
