Please show me where it is my civic duty to vote. In my opinion my only civic responsibility is to be a productive and contributing member of society.

As a member of this country I have a choice in whether to vote or not. That you could say is a civic privilege that I can exercise or not, but it is not required.

Maybe more would be willing to vote if the choices to vote for carried out their civic duty while in office.

Here’s the page, champ. Maybe you took too many headshots to remember it. I did the work for you. You defended the voting rights of a dead woman.

Maybe YStar hadn't read the entire dialog and didn't realize the post he replied to was a about a dead, cremated woman.

That is an extremely broad question, and to answer I'm going to have to use some broad generalizations. I hope TideWarrior will forgive me.

One, as a whole I think the military is a massive drain on our budget and is rife with waste, fraud, and abuse. I think one big reason it has gotten that way is any talk of the military that isn't total veneration of the military is characterized as anti-American. I recognize the need for a strong military, including a presence in foreign countries. I have respect for those that choose to serve, while also not putting them on a pedestal. I think our lawmakers and the brass of the military use the military for heinous acts and missions sometimes. I also think war has changed drastically over the last 20 years and we're a bit behind. We're still fighting an arms race that we lapped the field in decades ago, when the battlefields are now largely in cyberspace.

Amen.

Typically, the candidates (both Democrats and Republicans) aren't even honest or trustworthy. Corruption is standard operating procedure. Our elected officials do not serve American citizens who vote; they serve powerful wealthy special interests/lobbyists who fund their parties and campaigns. People feel like their votes don't matter because they don't matter.

I agree, but I'm pretty happy with how Trump has performed as president and will happily vote for him again. I feel like my vote for him has had obvious, positive effects on our country. Especially as it relates to the judiciary.

The irony is the elections where votes matter more(local and state races) generally have much lower turnout than the Presidential race where votes in most states don't matter much because of the Electoral College. This year, votes in FL, PA, MI, WI, NC, AZ, and OH are going to carry much more weight than votes in AL, CA, NY, TN, SD, and on and on.

First I will say I am not offended before responding.

Yes but as do many government programs especially when dealing the civil service union and wasted resources there and other departments that have become defunct.

Not true at all. Even people in the military will tell you about issues inside and lack of resources. The only thing that I see is when politicians use it for gain. That I consider anti-American.

So like me I assume you take issue with Biden putting his son on a pedestal last night. I never nor did anyone I know signed up for recognition or a piece a jewelry to wear on our chest.

War is heinous but our government has done nothing close to what many 3rd world governments have to their own people but yet we have people, especially on the left wanting us to ignore because they are anti-military.

This is completely wrong. We are no longer in an arms race. If anything we continue to shrink our military. In most case due to technology and more special training that requires less boots on the ground. And cyberspace we may be ahead of the rest of the world by a long shot with the investment our government has made in both military and security agencies.

I have no issue with the electoral college. It gives each state equal representation in the DC. Sorry but you will never sell me on the popular vote as I do not need the residents of CA telling me how to live my life or what is in my best interest in the state I reside. If I thought they had so great I would move back to CA.

Don't have the time this afternoon to address every point, but I'll respond to this one...

quote:

I actually did not have an issue with that. It's his son, and he should be proud of him and put him on a pedestal. I also don't really have a problem with honoring individual service members for acts of heroism. I was more talking about the general attitude of "respect the troops" or saying athletes that kneel during the national anthem are disrespecting the troops.

Maybe kneelers and other protesters are actually (unintentionally, but negligently) disrespecting the many more black lives who matter that are taken daily by black gangbangers. Why is there hardly any protesting about that much bigger problem?

For the love he had for his son or his political gain?

Being a lawyer stationed in the rear at Camp Victory does not represent heroism. If so why did not every other person stationed there receive the same? Easy answer so no reply needed. And for the record he received the Bronze Star without the V. Which means its was not awarded for valor or heroism.

The other two awards were given to him posthumous only because of who his father was and the political family name.

Interesting though how you contradict yourself here.

for acts of heroism

So now you see him as a hero.

My local Walmart here in Texas has opened up both entrances and allows people to shop without a mask.

I went in this morning to pick up a few things and noticed a dozen or so elderly individuals not wearing a mask so I took mine off.

It was great.
