From Cecil article on TideSports:

Simon was not available for comment on Monday, and UA officials responded to questions by saying they would comment "at a later time." However, Simon has not participated in UA team activities ranging from off-campus recruiting to attending the team's postseason banquet since early April.

Johnson is expected to conduct interviews for the vacancy before the upcoming weekend.

This is from someone random on TI. Don't know whether to believe it or not, but if this is true, our program is cursed...

Not an insider, but I do have reputable scoop on this. Key has checked out of Bama permanently. It has nothing to do with Bama. He’s in the midst of an ongoing family mess with his parents. Some may not realize he changed his name his senior year in high school. Major family issues. Probably not in his best interest to leave college at this point, but I wish him the best. His departure should not be interpreted as “anti-Alabama”. It would have happened at any school

Well that just dampened my hopes for next year. Actually, it pretty much just kicked me right in the balls. Right where I expected to be kicked, in that very exact spot. How and why do I know this? Because I've grown accustomed to Alabama basketball.

Wow that sucks...his parents issues are about to screw up his life.

I just have one question. IF this is true, and he knows he isn't coming back, why hasn't he already signed with an agent?

quote:I feel the same way. I see teams like Duke get good players year after year and some of them like Grayson Allen stay all 4 years. We get Key who could end up being one of our best players in years, and now he may not even stay past a year. I don't understand why we can't have success in basketball. It really makes me sick. Now I'm gonna have to lower my expectations for next year.

Damn that sucks. Ive wondered why he went from Braxton Blackwell to Braxton Key. Weve went from being a tourney lock to a bubble team IMO.

Ive also noticed Braxtons twitter is private now.

Said it once before...this basketball program is cursed. Avery shoukdve been hitting those grad transfers hard instead of praying that he comes back IMO.

Well, that's disastrous.

This thread has turned depressing. Guess I'll head back to the outdoor board.

Since he still hasn't signed with an agent, I'm hoping some things change behind the scenes or Avery is able to talk to him and get him to come back

If we ever win a national title in basketball, it'll probably get vacated. That's how our luck is

If true that's stupid and didn't make any sense, unless he is going home to protect and be there for a younger sibling or something. Family drama shouldn't stop you from receiving a free education, path to NBA...so I don't buy it.

Think of all the bad luck just Avery has had:
2015-2016: That team's issue was depth. They were clearly exhausted by the end of the year. If Eubanks qualified and Ingram hadn't gotten hurt, Avery probably gets that team to the tournament
2016-2017: Team's main issue is offense. If Ferguson ends up at Bama and King doesn't get sick, we probably make the tournament that year too.

Now 17-18 the team's issue is going to be experience. I'm worried we'll be a better version of this past season's Auburn team.
