I mean with that being said, Petty was third in minutes per game. And he has more potential for growth than Dazon does (although I do think Dazon should gradually improve).

I will settle on Dazon will be a core player for us this year, and I suspect he'll start. It's all guesses at this point.

One interesting way to look at it would be over/under 25 minutes a game predictions.

Last year:
Sexton: 29.9
Dazon: 28.8
Petty: 28.5
Braxton: 25.2
Donta: 23.7
Herb: 21.2
Riley: 18.4
AJ JR: 13.9

Giddens, Galin, Reese, etc.

This year, it's hard to say with the Butler situation being unclear. My early guess is Kira, Herb, Petty, Dazon, and Donta are the best candidates for over on 25 minutes a game. Which makes me clearly in "show me" mode with Mack I guess, since I suspect he'd be on most people's list (and he easily could be a top 3-4 minutes guy).

I'm interested in how Dontas play time works out. I've always liked keeping big men fresh by keeping their minutes 20-25 ....

That said, Donta can be an elite college C and clearly a huge upgrade over any other player Bama has at the 5.

Come tournament/postseason time, he stays on the floor but during OOC/grueling conf slate? Idk, hard to choose between giving the man some rest and asking him to push through

Decisions like that are why coaches get paid in dump truck amounts

He's certainly not a lock to get 25 plus, given he didn't get there last year.

I don't have any sort of game by game breakdown of how fouls and his various lingering injuries affected his minutes though.

I gave up pretty quickly trying to predict minutes in that last post. Some of it depends on Butler and some of it depends on how often we play two traditional bigs together and how often we play Riley, Mack, or Reese at the 4 (Reese could really go in either category).

I would prefer to see most of the 4 minutes go to guys like Riley, Mack, or Reese. With Hall and Galin at the 5 (and Giddens with some spot minutes).

Fleming is another one that just confuses the whole thing, but I don't know enough about him at this point so I'm being lazy and redshirting him.

If he becomes a top 2-3 player, I think we could legitimately be a dark horse for the SEC.

I would caution that our conference schedule does not set up well for this.

Auburn's 2x opponents last season finished 6, 9, 11, 12, and 14 in the SEC. Tennessee's finished 4, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Those schedules are big advantages in terms of winning the conference.

This year we get State, Auburn, and LSU all likely tournament teams, although I'm more skeptical of LSU than their fanbase, along with Vanderbilt who has good talent coming in and A&M who admittedly will probably be bad.

2 time opponents are over half of your conference games, so it's a big deal. Auburn went 7-3 against their 2x opponents. Tennessee went 9-1.

LSU fans are acting like we acted last year. When in reality, as we learned, they are going to be a really inconsistent team because of lack of experience.

Yeah I think they'll be so in a different way than we were though. I see them really struggling on defense but being really fun on offense.

6. Bama
7. LSU

I'd probably put UT, Aub, UK in order through regular season

I really like State s talent. I don't believe Howland is an elite coach. Otherwise I'd put State in that top group

If Reese is in better shape I expect a great year from him. He has got a real nice shot.

Bumped into him a couple days ago.Is down 15 lbs and in great shape. Not sure on Butler situation. A high school coach also mentioned that he's hearing the same thing on Watford.
