We could have a better record and still not make the tournament. That’s not going to be an improvement in my book, but I can see how somebody would say it is especially if we improve our conference record.

I don’t see how anybody can expect to do better than winning a game in the tourney. It could happen. I just wouldn’t expect it. We’ll be lucky enough to get invited. That’s just my two cents.

Words that I was not hoping for in regards to year 4 of the Johnson tenure.

Yea, I don't know how well we will do, but we better not regress. There's no excuse for that

Being a sunshine pumper / optimist isn't a bad thing, despite some people weirdly accusing people like it is a weapon against them

I just see the trajectory we re on after the dumpster fire that Avery inherited.

There are a lot of reasons why the trajectory can alter, to just dismiss those possibilities is where people/ I specifically took issue.

I have no problem admitting that Bama being better (assuming Sexton gone) next season is well within the realistic set of outcomes even though I don't expect it.

However it's arbitrarily ok for fans outside our fanbase to assess and criticize our roster.

Didn't realize that all my posts saying I expect Bama to be a NCAAT team + ballpark where they wer ethis season falls under "criticize"

Considering the NCAAT is something Bama/AU has experienced what, 3x combined or so in the past decade, that is closer to a compliment

Hearing that Key is likely gone. Possibly as soon as next week.

He also made a cryptic Instagram post saying something like “My next move better be my last”.

Key was a contributor and he will be missed.

Yep. He would’ve made a really big impact this year if he hadn’t fallen behind due to injury. Now he’s all healed up and is gonna end up being a star somewhere else while we give his scholarship to Norris smh

Can't say I'm surprised. I hope he does well. Any guesses on where he'll land? NC State maybe.

Maybe. He went to high school in Nashville before going to Oak Hill for his senior year.

Team Penny AAU is now called Bluff City Legends or something and is absolutely stacked. If Penny gets those guys to go to Memphis, Key probably wouldn't want to be there.

I think we will be better just because we will be more experienced. I will say
20-11(10-8) and make the tournament. Petty will be more consistent/confident hopefully and Mack will give us another reliable shooter.

it's also not a stretch to think that one player who accounted for a third of the offense when he was on the floor and somehow was by far the most efficient non-Hall player on the roster will be harder to replace than the average guy, especially when the replacements for him are either inexperienced or aren't very dynamic.

We lost Retin Obasohan who was relied even more heavily on, replaced him with zero great offensive talent, and basically had the same year.

Don't get me wrong Sexton was a great talent and may end up being the best pro we've ever had, but great talent will always hide good/great talent. When Green/Mitchell were here, Releford was solid, but didn't start blowing it up until Green/Mitchell were gone. When Releford was dominating the SEC, Randolph was solid, but didn't look like a stud until Releford left. When Randolph was our stud, Obasohan was solid, but didn't explode until his senior year after Randolph left. The only year we haven't had a stud in the past several years was the aforementioned year after Retin, and we turned out just as good as the year prior.

Regressing isn't out of the question, but there's a lot of potential studs on the roster (more than any off-season in recent memory) to replace Sexton next year. If I had to make a prediction I'd say, we end up winning more games and aren't on the bad side of the bubble going into the tournament, but in the same breath won't be as explosive as we were this year.

A great example is Bama reaching the elite 8 with Antoine Pettway leading the charge---something that superstar Mo Williams never achieved.

On a sidenote: Keep an eye on Patrick Belein, son of Michigan HC. He'll def. be a star hc one day.

Releford/Randolph/Retin would have all been stars at the same time if they had a competent coach who knew how to use them. That's the key for Avery. There's a lot of talent, but he needs to be able to put the pieces together.
