He has the ability to dribble face first instead of arse first. That immediately seals the deal for me.

He had his chance to be successful at this level and wasn't.

Judging someone off of their freshman and sophomore year is just not smart. Obasohan didn't light it up either when he first got here.

Coleman shot 25% three in two years after we recruited him to be a shooter

Shooting is usually the last thing to translate from HS to college. Especially if you're 5'9" going up against size you're not used to playing against.

I don't understand why people don't seem to think players can improve outside of their first 2 seasons.

I'd rather have AJ Jr, for nothing more than his attitude. I don't love his game, but I think he can be a leader on next year's team.

He wasn't a leader last year when he was the oldest player (by almost 2 years) on a team full of freshman. Don't get me wrong, he played much better down the stretch but if Junior is due for heavy minutes, we're screwed.

He got a little better as the season progressed, but for the majority of the season he literally didn't spend any time facing the basket. It drove me crazy.

Did it get brought up that UTAR fired their coach?

Coleman wasn't just a work in progress when he got here, he was atrocious. For two full years. Showed zero signs of improvement. He was supposed to be a good shooter, but couldn't see over defenders and was way off on most of his shots. Coleman has talent and skills, but he clearly belongs at a mid-major school.

Not to mention he was one of Grant's players and CAG's players simply didn't know how to win.

Only thing Jr. is good at is calling for screens. He has mastered that.

Improved 4% FG shooting, 14% FT shooting, 2 more APG, 3.5 more PPG, higher assist/TO ratio, and 10 pts on offensive rating (which is a huge increase). He also displayed the ability to take a game over like he did against Oregon (24 pts and 6 assists). He wasn't great by any stretch, but he had shown signs of what he was capable of very similar to Obasohan early in his career.

So were Releford, Randolph and Obasohan...

Yeah Gene I saw that. It’s absolutely ridiculous that they fired their coach. He’s an alumni who has won more games than they can truly ask for. He’s also made the tourney in their one bid league. Three straight 20 wins seasons.....and they fire him bc the new AD wants ‘his guy’. How does that even make any dang sense? Smh

The AD talked about how he wanted to be the next Gonzaga... Despite having a $10mil lower budget

They vastly underachieved this year, but I bet this was their best four year run in school history. I doubt they pull someone better.

I would rather give L Schaffer a chance than go to Coleman. My suspicion is that both are a liability on defense.

I get why mid-major ADs say this stuff, but it's pretty dumb. In football Boise State and TCU are the go to comparisons. Good luck finding a Mark Few, Chris Peterson, or Gary Patterson who stays at your school way longer than you can reasonably expect.

They were destined to fail. The coach started interviewing last year for jobs before March Madness, he knew he was being forced out

This is peak UTAR basketball in their history no doubt

Fired Coach Scott Cross Resume

- Only coach in school history with >0.500 Win% (58.3%)
- Only UTAR NCAAT berth
- 10/12 highest win seasons school history
- Winningest coach school history
- 2/3 Conference Championships in school history
- Beat OhioSt, Texas & 2x BYU in past 3 years

It's not even close to a guarantee you'll find a coach of that caliber who won't stay after they win

You guys saying negative things about Coleman are just talking lol. Kid wasn't great but when you don't have anyone around you its tough. Jr. shouldn't be on scholarship. He is that bad. You guys will say he got better because he made a couple buckets in the NCAA tournament lol.

Do you even watch the games frick his attitude. Its a 5'10 guy that can't dribble, can't get to the lane so you have to play him off ball. He stands in the corner and shoots air balls all day. So I really don't understand it. The fact that he can't handle the rock at his size is enough for him not to be on the team IMO.

Seems like the consensus is that neither Coleman/Avery JR are very good point guards

Another consensus, Schaeffer should play more

Coleman had the 11th highest assist rate in the country playing for a terrible team. I don't care what anyone says, that's impressive.
