Well, I never really thought he was gone for sure. It just doesn't make sense. But, I also never thought he was definitely coming back.

Also, isn't that Dazon's instagram, not AJ's?

It is, but I'm assuming it was probably prompted by Avery. Ingram and AJjr post a lot of the "secrets" that are hinted at on social media.

And he said he's gonna recruit Brian Bowen to DePaul. Hire one coach and possibly get two 5-stars at a small school. Who wouldn't do that?

Definitely a smart move, but there probably is some sketch stuff happening in the background of this one.

Depaul probably going to make the tournament here for a couple years if they are trying to make these type moves

Another interesting quote from the Brandon Johns interview

quote:

What about Alabama's coach Avery Johnson? How does his coaching in the NBA impact you at all?

I think that's really cool. You can really tell Alabama's known for their football, but they're really trying with their basketball program with him coming in. He's really trying to turn the program around.

I get really sick of the football school stuff. The reality is that any school that plays any semblance of major college football is a football school.

I understand it from their viewpoint. It's just something we're gonna have to deal with at Bama. I wouldn't want to go play at Duke right now for football bc it's a "basketball school". When you come here to play basketball, you're in the shadow of Nick Saban/football all the time. You can still come here and make us a basketball school too, but a lot of kids don't want to go somewhere like that. Avery is doing a fine job recruiting through that tho

If Billy Donovan did it at Florida, it can be done anywhere.

Florida, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Ohio State all do it. Why not us too?

I don't hear football school thrown around all the time about those places though. We have commentators who make jokes about it every single game. Kentucky football generates more revenue than Kentucky basketball. Any power 5 school could be called a football school because to the athletics department football is number 1. If it wasn't, the original Big East would still exist.

Yeah I get tired of hearing it mentioned during every single basketball game. Dick Vitale wouldn't shut up about Saban when we were playing Kentucky in the SEC semis. Every time someone would do something good he would say something like "Ohhhhhh, Nick Saban would love that!". It just comes with being the most dominant program in college football I guess. I just wish the commentators wouldn't bring it up every single time our basketball team plays.

It really is annoying as hell. It's not like Bama has ZERO tradition in basketball. Of course everyone knows about the football program, but shut up about it during a basketball game. I don't hear them talking about football through half a softball game.

That's what I don't understand. People outside of our fanbase try to act like we are historically bad at basketball, and that isn't true. There's over 350 programs and we were top 30 I think in some list that came out not too long ago, were in the top tier of SEC schools, we have a lot of SEC championships, a ton of wins, some notable names that have went to the nba, we have some notable coaches, and now we have a famous NBA champ as our head coach with the #4 recruiting class. They've gotta start respecting us soon. The only thing holding us back is Grant not winning enough while he was here. As soon as Avery gets us back to the tourney on a regular basis, I think it'll help a little.

To be fair they did alot back in 2009-2011. It may have not been through the whole game, but they would find a way to drop football in there at least by the 2nd inning

@aaron_torres posted this on twitter:

quote:

SEC hoops should start next year expecting to get at LEAST 7 teams into the tourney: Kentucky, Arkansas, Bama, A&M, Florida, Vandy + Mizzou

And then I posted it on the Rant. I'm sure that'll end well being that it doesn't have Auburn

Avery Johnson is supposed to be on the Cole Cubelic radio show right now. Anyone know what he said?

Edit: Nothing new. Talked about camp and some other stuff

The fact that Mizzou is on there is a bigger diss than Alabama for most people.

We've earned that though.

Don't give me the tradition crap. Alabama basketball hasn't really mattered for pretty much the entire lives of the kids we are recruiting.

James Harden was like 15 years old the last time we made the Sweet Sixteen.

Hell, Bryce Harper hadn't even made his MLB debut the last time we even made the tournament at all.

You guys expect Avery to recruit kids in 2017 by letting them know that Alabama was good at basketball 3-4 decades ago?

Who said anything like that? We're saying announcers make the perception of Bama basketball worse than reality.

I mean the announcers can't really talk about any success that the basketball program has had.

Anybody that turns on that game and isn't an Alabama fan will literally only attach Alabama to football. That's not the announcers fault imo.

I agree that it's annoying for fans of Alabama basketball, but of course they are going to bring up the football team. That's literally the only thing the school is known for across the nation.

And it was also Dick Vitale that was the most egregious about it and he's pretty much always been a terrible color guy for basketball games.
