Here is the problem with not playing todays game.
We are now 14-12 in conference and MSU is 16-11 if we had played and lost we would still be in fourth place so the loss wouldn't have mattered much, but if we could have won we would have been 15-12.
Then if we could have taken 2 of 3 from MSU we would both finish with identical 17-13 records and we would get the higher seed because of head to head.
Also if we had beat LSU in game 3, we would have entered the last series a half a game ahead of LSU and if we won 2 of 3 from MSU they would have had to sweep Auburn to get a higher seed than us.
Now we have to sweep MSU to have a higher seed and if we we win 2 out of 3 we will finish 16-13 to their 17-13.
So not playing today hurt our chances big time, because if we lost it wouldn't have hurt us much, we would still be looking at 4rth in the West, but if we had won, then taken 2 out of 3 from MSU at home we would be looking at a 2nd place finnish in the West.

Yea yesterday's game being rained out hurt. Not much to lose by playing it. A win would have really helped, a loss really wouldn't have made much difference. Oh well though, can't control the weather. Have to at least win the series with State this coming weekend. Hopefully the great pitching from this past weekend is here to stay.

remind me what is wrong with Keller.
He was suspended for a team rules violation at USC. Pitched last weekend, but was out for yesterday's game with a "bicep issue."

So to get a bye in the SEC Tournament do we have to finish second in the west or in the top 4 overall? And to get a bye do we have to sweep Mississippi State?

Top four overall. And yea, we'll have to sweep State and have Auburn win a game against LSU to finish in the top 4. That's at least the most likely scenario. We could finish ahead of Ole Miss too if they got swept at A&M. But there's no way to get a bye without sweeping State.
ETA: Mathematically we can still finish anywhere from 3rd to 10th. If we win two out of three against MSU we will very likely finish right where we are now in 7th.

Eicholtz getting the start again tonight. Will be interesting to see who follows him out of the pen, notably if Bramblett or Keller are among them. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them start Thursday to give Turnbull an extra day after throwing Saturday.

Tide brought the bats tonight. 8-0 after the 1st

That was an impressive first inning, to say the least. Eicholtz hasn't been too hot, walked two and hit another in the first, but has pitched out of trouble. 8-0 T3

Four for JSU in the third, 8-4 T4

10-6 T6 . We already have 12 hits. Hopefully we can keep this going this weekend.

The only way I can follow some of these games is by GameTracker and the new version used by the Alabama is awful.. it is by CBS.. the one last year wasn't the greatest, but better than last year.. we went in reverse.. tune into the game tracker through Jacksonville State.. now that is a good layout.. also, when Tennessee or Florida play against Alabama in baseball, I can catch it on their site for free.. I have to pay to join the University's station

Sorry.. make that through Livestats at Jacksonville State.. am I just not well enough versed?

Agree.. and you are a realist.. a pessimist says thank goodness because look at who can catch us if we go "strike 3" with Mississippi State.. now erase this.. good karma

Tonight's game has free video from JSU's website I believe. Alabama should make more games available for free like others have started to, but next year with the SEC Network I think pretty much all conference games will be available either on TV or online.
Anyway, 12-7 now tonight in the 8th. Eicholtz gave up 4 in three innings, Hawley 2 in two, and Shaw allowed a run in his only inning. Castillo pitched a perfect 7th inning.

15-7 now. Greer on to pitch the eighth, we need him to finish off the final two innings.

Burrows in the bottom of the 9th.

I just saw that, I feel like that's absurd. He hasn't pitched in a week and a half, so I suppose the reasoning is just too shake off any potential rust. But it seems like with a series starting in 48 hours, the SEC tournament two days after that, and then the NCAA tournament we'd want to save his arm as much as possible.
