True. But dual-threat QBs effect everyone else the same. When Alabama has a dual-threat QB we too become harder to defend.

So, what's the point?

We've changed the caliber of athlete we've recruited at different positions, and downsized the defensive product. All, in hopes of staying with more elusive offenses. Not just because they are dual-threat but also because college football has morphed into the HUNH RPO spread game we have today.

LSU just tried to out talent an inferior team with an air raid passing scheme. They got 600 yards put on their head and humiliated. It's not enough to have the best team. It takes a smart scheme to go along with it.

Since nobody wanna hear the facts, I'm gonna lay them here:

King- 5 carries for 43 yards averaging 8.6 yards.
Smith-5 carries for 29 yards averaging 5.8yards
Spiller 11 for 25 yards averaging 2.3 yards
Mond(QB) 8 for 19 yards averaging 2.4 yards

TAMU averaged 3.8 yard.

They went over 100 yards mark late in the game with backup QB rushing for 43 yards.

Now, we did good job on Mond overall. We had 8 hb hurries and a pick-sx. We generally had problems
with Mond in the past, so we know he is elsuive and got off some passes that most QB can't. He should've had
3 ints in the game. two were dropped or mistimed.

Secondary- Malachi Moore played almost perfect game yesterday.
Daniel Wright and the grouping didn't play well at all. We know two touchdowns by TAMU came by busted assignments

One of the play and I'm not sure, but it looked like safties screwed up assignment on one of the tochdown by TAMU TE.
Another one that nobody noticed, but the wheel route got us again this week. Missouri pulled that play against us and TAMU did it again this week.
We keep forgetting to cover RB on wheel routes. It was busted assignments.

Now, I'm going to quote Saban from last night:
quote:

Saban said there were mental errors on defense with alignments and not adjusting to motion correctly. He credited his defense, though, with making turnovers and making fourth-down stops. He lamented not getting off the field on third down.
Saban did not like the way safety Daniel Wright “approached and finished” his missed tackle on Ainias Smith’s 47-yard touchdown catch. There was also a mental error on that play that allowed Smith to be open. Saban added that Wright is a player who “really needs to stay focused on doing his job” and said he made a “big play” with his interception later.

-- Saban said Alabama played the game “how we needed to play it” defensively but had trouble on third downs. The defense did contain Kellen Mond, who ran for 90 yards last year against Alabama. Saban also thought the defense did a good job getting pressure on Mond as a passer.

quote:

Saban thought Alabama had a tough time covering tight end Jalen Wydermyer, who he called one of the best at his position in the country. “If you talk to those people, they think he’s one of the best players in the country, and he certainly showed that today,” Saban said. “It wasn’t like we weren’t all over the guy. He’s just a big-bodied guy that can catch the ball.” Saban believed Alabama did a good job in man-to-man coverage against the Aggies' other receivers.

True, I'll give you that one, but at the end of the day, we're still having issues with dual qb. This is why I'm little suprised that Saban hasn't really made adjustment in his scheme, but maybe he has and we haven't noticed it.

Did you watch Georgia’s defense yesterday?

That UGA defense is ferocious and physically beat the crap out of auburn. We have the talent, but we aren’t that physical.

I'm absolutely convinced that coach Saban wanted to be more conservative on offense this season to protect his defense. Sark dialed up bomb after bomb. Basically, it was Mac who destroyed TAMU's defense on the long ball. We end up controlling the clock for a little north of 20 minutes. That leaves our defense out there for almost 40. So no one is going to accuse Alabama this week of looking like the most complete team in the SEC.

This ongoing imbalance might be more about what Steve Sarkisian continues to dial up going forward than what coach Saban wants to see from his defense. You can't leave any SEC defense out there for 40 minutes and expect good results.

You add poor communications, misalignment issues, and mental errors and we have the makings of an Alabama team, extremely dependant, on a big-play offense to win a championship. I have never seen that work at Alabama. Not once.

Saban and Sark said they wanted to run the ball more. Game 2 into the season and we're not doing that. I think we're taking what Defense give us.

That doesn't change what we are as an identity. A balanced offense at Alabama is either running or passing when we WANT to, not when they let us.

Watch the physicality and toughness leave this team at the speed of light if we morph into this mentality again.

Yesterday was more about taking what the A&M defense was giving us. Their front 7 was controlling our running game, so Sark went to the air and killed them. There will be more games like that this season Because our offense is so talented it’s a pick your poison decision for opposing coaches. Other than UGA, there isn’t a defense on our schedule that can stop both consistently.

Defensively, I don’t think Mond ever got comfortable yesterday. He’s always had happy feet though so hard to say for sure. We were certainly affecting him without registering a ton of sacks. Other than those busted assignments, I thought the defense played well. Those busted assignments can be cleaned up with more experience and coaching.

As good as Mac is right now we absolutely should be throwing the ball more. Two top 15 picks at WR and Metchie developing into a solid number three will be tough for any defense to stop. It will also force teams to keep their safeties back giving Najee more room to run.

UGA will be interesting, to say the least. So will Clemson, Ohio State, if we get there. The next championship we win doing this will be the first.

So far, what I've seen this young season is the same offensive identity we've put on the field the last 2 seasons.

No coach is getting fired in the middle of one of the biggest economic crisis' of the 20 and 21st century. Universities are already hemorrhaging money, they're not blowing 10M on firing a football coach.

We're not getting DC turnover unless it's a coach already available on the market/staff i.e. Strong.

Mac threw for over 400 yards yesterday. Where were the running lanes? Given that the consensus is that we have the biggest and best OL in college football, where were the running lanes?

To invoke your will on a football team, you must have the will. Conviction is repetition. I suspect strongly that we are playing just like we're practicing.
