Different eras for sure. But who would you rather have at QB vs Michigan, 2011 AJ, or 2023 Jalen.

I’m on my phone…sorry for any typos or misspelling.

How about we see how Milroe finishes the season before we pit him against one of the most beloved QBs in bama history?

AJ McCarron through 13 games in 2011:
219-328 66.8 2,634 yards 16 TDs 5 INTs

Jalen Milroe through 12 games in 2023:
171-261 65.5 2,718 yards 23 TDs 6 INTs

I like to think that AJ hits all those checkdowns against Georgia. However, Milroe might be the only guy in CFB this year that you run a double spy scheme against. It was 1000% due to his skillset

I don’t think AJ suddenly makes the offense an efficiency monster. We have some relative deficiencies that aren’t just Milroe’s fault. I take AJ but it’s close

No. Strictly passing.

I'm taking Milroe at this point over the 2011 version of McCarron. Those numbers don't even show Milroe's running yards and TDs. McCarron did do exactly what he was asked playing with that elite 2011 defense - which was a be a game manager. Will need more than that to win two more games. A little bit of a high risk high reward choice I guess.

McCarron. He’s a 4000+ yard passer in the modern game.

Based on first year alone it’s Milroe imo. AJ wasn’t great his first year as starter. Milroe has had major hiccups as well but his legs are a problem for defenses.

Look at it this way…is 2011 AJ leading this group to 12-1? I don’t think so. How about 2023 Milroe on that 2011 team?

Tbf 2011 Bama had the worst group of WRs in the Saban era(no offense Maze). That made things tougher for AJ.

But AJ also had a far better OL and run game. And defense too which made it easier on offense

I'd trust AJ more.

Milroe has improved, no doubt, but there's still the potential for disaster... especially if he starts pretending he's a pro-style, drop back QB.

That’s not what the topic is about. Also Not sure how beloved AJ was going into the Sugar Bowl.

I was surprised just how close they were statistically in the passing game.

AJ was great at avoiding sacks early on by tossing the ball into the sidelines. Milroe got better at it.

It’s definitely a contrast of styles since the game has evolved.

Didn’t want to start a debate, just good discussion since it’s hard to find that anymore.

McCarron was a very beloved QB. He was the first QB in school history to start on back-to-back national championship teams. His 2012 season is still among the most efficient I have ever seen an Alabama QB have and his 2013 campaign likely would have netted him a Heisman (albeit as a career award) had he beaten Auburn and won the SEC.

All true about AJ. I was really more curious about what others thought of 12 game AJ compared to 12 game Milroe. Their success parallels, but their routes are so different.

AJ had to hold off a higher rated QB and so did Milroe. Phillip Sims was highly rated just as Ty Simpson.

For his experience, AJ had really good statistics as listed above. Contrasting, Milroe’s stats are very good considering his obstacles which include being asked to do more to carry the team being such a focal point of our offense.
AJ was asked to manage the game. Milroe has been asked to win the game.
They both have been really good in their first year starting while so inexperienced and at a young age.

Interesting stuff for a slow, almost off-season like week.

Well he’s not pretending that if you have watched Alabama lately. Different eras but I’ll take Milroe in this day and age.

AJ was unbelievably 23-34 for 230 on 1/9/12 against a defense that had defeated like 5 conference champs. Pretty damn good, considering how tight that leash was that Saban had him on that night.

Milroe’s legs can definitely be the difference maker NYD. Hopefully the layoff will affect both teams the same.

One of the best defenses we have faced in the Saban era.

How would Milroe have done against that 2011 LSU D? Whether with the 2023 or 2011 offense?
