The Vols started with a first down but did nothing most of the first quarter. Alabama’s defense at one point had among the fewest 3-and-outs on defense but it had five Saturday -- six if you count the third-down fumble Malachi Moore returned for a touchdown right after halftime.

- Alabama had a few well-designed screen passes early. The first went for 8 yards to Najee Harris behind a convoy of blockers while the second was an 11-yard gain to DeVonta Smith on the second drive. Steve Sarkisian has shown a few new looks like this early in recent games.

The Alabama defense tied a season-high with eight tackles for loss without recording a sack for the second time in five games.

John Metchie continues to impress in his first season starting. He showed incredible concentration on a pair of 45-yard receptions (seen below) in traffic. Saban said he likes the Canadian sophomore’s strong hands. “I think he’s a smart guy,” Saban said after the game. “He really plays the game well, pays attention to detail runs good routes. And he’s fast. And he’s quick out of a break.”

I enjoyed the wildcat shift. That was pretty nifty

I think the defense overall has played relatively well since the 2nd half of the Georgia game. I know it was just Tennessee but the days of a dominating defense are long gone...even at Bama!

Speaking of the "wildcat shift" play. Can the QB and RB move at the same time? They almost did and I was afraid they'd get an illegal shift penalty

Also like what I see from Bryce Young...

Technically yes, kind of like when the QB moves his leg for motion and the running back moves with him or TE motion. They just can’t be moving at snap at the same time.

He impressed me. He sure has a very good arm and a quick release

Glad Bryce got more than two minutes of playing time and he looked really good.
