LINK ]Darnell Washington set for busy off-season
(Greg Biggins | 247 | embedded video)
quote:

Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines tight end Darnell Washington showed why he’s the nation’s top player at his position with several impressive showings at the Pylon 7v7 tournament in Mesquite.

There probably wasn’t a more impressive looking athlete in Mesquite, Nevada over the weekend than Washington. At 6-7.5 and 250 pounds, Washington is one of the most unique athletes we have seen come out of the West in some time.

He’s the nation’s top rated tight end prospect but will be switched to ‘athlete’ when rankings are updated and be given a significant bump up the charts. He has the ability to play defensive end at the next level as well but was a dominant pass catcher this weekend.

With his length, hands, body control and athleticism, he’s simply a brutal matchup and almost impossible to slow down without committing a penalty. The hope is he doesn’t grow too much more and lose some of his flexibility or outgrow the tight end position but there are few players with more long term upside than Washington.

On the recruiting front, Washington recently took visits to Penn State, Pitt and West Virginia. The Nittany Lions seem like a very intriguing option right now for multiple reasons.

“I liked it there a lot,” Washington said. “I like how they use the tight end in the offense and that’s a big part of my decision. I also liked the coaching staff and the area and felt really comfortable there.

“Micah (Bowens) just committed there and I think he’s a big time player and is going to do big things for them. He can run and pass and will help them a lot. I think he could be the next big thing at Penn State so I’m happy for him.”

Washington will head to the SEC for his next visit. “I’m going to Georgia next weekend,” Washington said. “I’ve never been there before so I’m looking forward to that. That’s all I have set up right now though.

"I’m going to take a lot more unofficial visits this spring and summer but just don’t know where yet. Tennessee wants me to visit and Alabama wants me to come back up as well. I camped with them last summer and had a great time but would love to come back on my own and see how I like it.

"I’ve been to UCLA 2-3 times and like it a lot there. I like the location, it’s close to home and I like how they use the tight end as well. Arizona State is also pushing hard out West and wants me to visit. There are a lot of schools talking to me right now and I’m just taking it all in.”

Washington said he’s still open to everyone recruiting him and isn’t ready to cut his list down yet. “I’m honestly looking at everyone equally right now,” Washington said. “I kind of blew up out of nowhere so I’m still new to this and new schools are still coming in for me. I want to take as many unofficial visits as I can and see the whole country before I cut my list down.

“At the end of the summer, I’ll cut things down and then figure out where to take my five official visits. I’m taking all five for sure but don’t have anything set right now. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamed of committing at one of the All-American Games so I could either commit at the Under Armour Game or do a video, I’ll figure that out later.”

Good job with updating Surge

I have a friend on staff at Gilbert's HS in Marietta. He says that the kid wants in the SEC, isn't hung up on staying in-state. Tenn staff has done a good job recruiting him, top 2 are Bama and UT right now. Ga is pushing hard but t 3rd right now (again as it stands now)

Pruitt is going to start gaining some traction in the next few classes if he stays put at UT...he knows where to recruit

If we (eventually) manage to land Young that would be a major coup. Perhaps then people will stop complaining about Sark for 5 minutes..., maybe.

Thanks for posting the quote from Young's dad, Surge!

LINK ]Updated Top247 for 2020 sees a massive overhaul (247Sports)

quote:

It’s time for the class of 2020 to take center stage. With National Signing Day comfortably behind us, the updated Top247 for the rising senior class is here.

The updated list reflects a total reset, a recalibration of what we know based on a review of the most important season of the recruiting process: junior year. This list is morphing from projections of freshman and sophomore rankings to the cold hard truth of junior year bodies of work.

What you think you know may no longer be true. Fifty-eight previous members of the Top247 have been displaced by new blood. Twenty-six of them are now 3-star prospects. There are four new additions to the 5-star pool. Twenty-two prospects have jumped from outside the Top247 to inside the top-100. . . (much more)

CLICK HERE FOR THE FULL TOP247

Note: Along with the above article, the links in this thread's 1st post also provide visibility of both the 247Sports and Composite rankings updates, since each 247Sports player profile (e.g., Thaiu Jones-Bell) has a Rank History link.

LINK ]Tide well represented in updated Top247 Rankings (BamaOnLine)
quote:

247Sports unveiled its latest rankings updates on Wednesday and seven Alabama commitments are represented in the Top247.

Alabama commitment Chris Braswell remains the No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the country, sitting as the No. 17 overall player in America. The Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy product is expected back in Tuscaloosa this weekend and remains locked in with the Crimson Tide.

Making the biggest move up is four-star running back Roydell Williams, who vaulted 110 spots after an outstanding junior season campaign that saw the Hueytown (Ala.) star rush for 2,757 yards and 32 touchdowns. Williams is more than deserving of the move. Throughout his three year high school career he’s amassed 4,640 yards and 60 touchdowns as well as 404 yards and four scores receiving. The in-state UA commit will have the chance to continue boosting his stock throughout 2019.

Tide defensive line pledge Jayson Jones moved outside the Top100 checking in at No. 157. The Calera (Ala.) product is rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered after the 2018 season. The potential is certainly there for the 6-foot-6.5, 340-pounder to rebound in the rankings.

Other Bama pledges checking in within the Top247 are four-star cornerback Malachi Moore at No. 93. The Hewitt-Trussville DB made named First Team All-State for Class 7A last season. Four-star Georgia corner Javier Morton is in at No. 129. Four-star linebacker Jackson Bratton is in at No. 150 after amassing 155 tackles this past season, also earning First Team All-State honors for Class 6A. Four-star receiver Javon Baker is in at No. 205 and four-star receiver Dazalin Worsham rounds out the UA pledges among the Top247 at No. 235.

As for the 247Sports rankings for the state of Alabama, the top 10 are as follows:

1.) Quandarrius Robinson went from outside the Top247 to No. 86 overall
2.) Malachi Moore
3.) Roydell Williams
4.) J.J. Evans
5.) E.J. Williams
6.) Demouy Kennedy
7.) Jackson Bratton
8.) Jayson Jones
9.) Kristian Story
10.) Cameron Riley

Other notable rankings updates within the state include Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) defensive lineman Eric Taylor, Attalla (Ala.) Etowah athlete De’Rickey Wright and Notasulga (Ala.) Reeltown athlete Eric Shaw all earning fourth stars.

Moving along, the Tide has several targets checking in within the new Top247 Rankings:

— Five-star defensive end Bryan Bresee is the No. 1 player in America. The Damascus (Md.) product is tentatively planning to officially visit Alabama this spring.

— The Tide has a pair of West Coast linebacker targets in five-stars Sav’ell Smalls and Justin Flowe, both checking in at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively.

— The Tide is turning up the heat on the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in USC pledge Bryce Young. He moves up to No. 16 from No. 39.

— One of UA’s top targets at the tight end position in Darnell Washington made the jump from No. 44 to No. 15 in the nation.

— As for a notable defensive line moves as it pertains to Tide targets, South Carolina product Jordan Burch moves up to the No. 2 player in the nation. Burch was in Tuscaloosa earlier this month for Junior Day.
