This was a very telling post as maybe the staff felt he was shaky about the commitment.
Thats a lot of support muscle to help get a kid who was leaning as of the last 24-48 hrs.
Not saying they were asked by our staff to attend !.lol

You forgot the rest of the post. I doubt they were asked to show up for support. More likely, it was a group announcement for the Army AA jerseys.

So, I know it sounds crazy, but maybe the kid just didn't tell anyone until the end and in the end it was different than what people thought.

Whatever he did, I hope more kids do it. Watching the "experts" back track is wonderful.

The fact that you think the number one qb from California is comparable to a TE tells me all I need to know.

They're not comparable.

You should re-read the post.

This it the truth. So many buy into these so called internet recruiting experts and pay for click bait but they really know nothing more then what you can find on a free board like this. Wasn't it Watts(cold be wrong) that said last night he was waiting to find out more intel. These so called experts are only experts at stalking teenagers for the most part.

I do not follow recruiting that much anymore but have a few questions regarding Gilbert.

I read the crystal ball guys were putting in picks for UA but were some of our board insiders here and elsewhere calling it? I do not recall hearing from those guys who I have a tendency to believe more.

Wasn't the knock on Gilbert was he wanted to line up at WR more then TE and did not like to block? Not sure that fits our scheme very well. I thought the consensus was D Washington. Gilbert better coming out of HS but Washington having the higher ceiling. And where are we in the Washington sweepstakes?

Not to mention that things like the "Crystal Balls" and "Insider Intel" say a kid is going to School A.........then they go to School B and everyone who follows School A acts like the kid personally told them for 6 months he was coming and then didn't come. Then they hate the kid and talk shite about it.

It's such a terrible, shitty model.

I could be wrong but I thought I read he had softened on that and understand that he could be used as a blocking end who also split out (ala Pitts at Florida, Irv/Howard here, etc).

Everything I've read is that Washington is more of an athletic project and that Gilbert is a bonified stud tight end from day 1. And Georgia is pretty firmly in the drivers seat with Washington.

Saban was not trolled. The recruiting experts were trolled.Big time. We were misled by the recruiting gurus.
Why would anyone say Saban was trolled ? Did Saban say Gilbert was coming to Alabama? Did he give hints that we had our TE?
How does anyone know what Saban knew about this situation? Don't you think by now Saban is going to have a fairly good idea of who is committed and the ones wavering or undecided?
Just absurd nonsense. By the way I am thoroughly disappointed that he didn't commit to us. He was on my must have list, though Washington is definitely 1B.

Maybe LSU sold him on more WR. Either a great pick up for them.

The same on what I have read.

Did Nick Saban announce he is retiring?
Ill admit i was excited about the possibility of a down field threat at TE but LSU is still LSU and they have always had as much talent. I don't think we are suffering and the perception of this is irrelevant ...the fact is that no one will out work CNS. No one has signed yet. Coach O has his selling points as well and Bama may lose on 11/9 but...i still like Bamas next 5 yrs over LSUs. Have you not seen how the next 6 weeks/3.5 months goes? (I know you have)

I would love to add a J Fowler and/or B Smelley type of recruit to this class. Sorry Sean I know that may push you over the edge but I miss those work horse players. That type of blue collar player that will do anything asked for the team.

No I did not see anything from the Sunseri's but I do not follow them. Someone always posts their tweets on message boards.

And so was the alabama coaching staff and the head of that staff is nick saban.

Reliable "recruiting experts" (such as tim watts) don't make their picks unless they're getting consistent messages from all involved parties. Player, handlers, family and most of all, coaching staff. Do you think tim watts is putting in a crystal ball if alabama doesn't confirm it?

Watts made his pick because the alabama coaching staff confirmed what gilbert and his handlers were saying. The head of that coaching staff is nick saban. Saban got trolled by gilbert and crew and ogeron knew it was coming.

We weren't "misled" by them. They were misled by the gilbert crew, who in turn misled the alabama coaching staff. And they misled them on purpose. That's a troll, it just is.
