Short answer: Awarding Giles Amos a scholly for the 2019-20 academic year won't reduce how many recruits or incoming transfers Bama can take going forward.

Explanation: When a walkon gets a scholly it doesn't count toward the annual 25 signings and 25 initial counters limits. It only counts toward the 85 total counters limit. Amos puts us at 85.

There's a "mid-year replacement" rule that allows for counting early enrollees against unused spots from the current academic year's (prior recruiting cycle's) signing and initial counter limits. FBS schools must start the fall term with 85 total counters to be eligible to use that option. That's a key reason Bama awards schollys to walkons in August needed to reach the 85 limit.

Bama consistently has enough graduates, early departures to the NFL and outbound transfers needed to fit it's incoming recruits and transfers within the 85 limit. Key reasons Bama doesn't have problems with that are: (1) How many players graduate and/or get drafted within three years; (2) Players who redshirted and have their degrees but still don't have a good chance of starting can easily grad transfer with two years of immediate eligibility.

Sidenote: Bama does a great job managing it's roster, promoting graduation and developing players so they can contribute early and start at some point. Although there'll still be a few that end up needing and opting to transfer out in order to be a starter (elsewhere), that actually works out pretty well for those players, and for the success of Bama's program too.

I was looking back at the 2016 recruiting thread to see what the reaction was when Jacobs committed. It was NSD so it was too busy for anyone to really question it.

If you went back you can see how big I was on Jacobs. From the first time we were linked to him.

RBs don't make or break a team nowadays, but missing out on Evans will hurt significantly. That kid is otherworld good.

Roydell is a beast so all is not lost.

Just hate how much we get tag-teamed with negative recruiting. These guys are literally coming together in one voice to say "Go anywhere but Saban and Alabama"... and you can see these kids are eating that shite up.

Anyways, we win this year we right the ship. This is only that effective because Dabo blew us out.

I don't think missing on Evans is that big of a deal in our RB recruiting. We usually get the number 1 or 2 RB in odd years so getting Roydell as a lead back in an even year is pretty solid, and while they are "long shots" McClellan and Evans are still, however unlikely, in play. If Sanders is healthy next year, Sanders, Williams, Ford, K. Robinson and Edwards would arguably be the best RB room in the country outside of UGA if they get Evans. If B.Rob (or Najee) for some reason stays that is a really deep stable. If Saban does what he normally does in odd years, get the number 1 or 2 back in the country the train keeps rolling.

The biggest issue with Evans is that he is most likely going to direct competition in the SEC and since, as Ystar mentioned he is a special back, he is going to be a pain in the arse to stop every year.

RBs don't beat us. We beat UGA teams with Michel, Chubb and Gurley.

Saban will always prioritize linemen above all other positions. I'm good with that.

Fixes for you:

ETA: Flipping McClellan (or getting Evans) may not be such a long shot, especially if Najee and BRob both have seasons that result in pretty high draft projections.

It was a very good post, just needed a few minor tweeks. I goof up with player names too, especially in posts that include a lot of guys.

5-star TE LINK ]Arik Gilbert & his mom are attending.

ETA: Bama is allotted some tickets, and NCAA rules alow for using some for recruits and their parents to attend neutral site games, but Bama's staff can't have contact with them at the game. Should have a few more names of other recruits attending later this week.

LINK ]Four-star OL Micah Morris talks favorites, sets commitment date
quote:

LINK ]Micah Morris just started his junior year at Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County, and that may be early for some in recruiting, but not this elite offensive tackle. The 6-foot-5, 300 pounder has well over 20 offers, he has visited many schools on that list and he is now ready to name favorites, then announce his commitment later this year.

"It is my birthday (turned 16) today and I wanted to name my top schools," said Morris. "This list could still change, but as of right now, my top schools are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

"I have no order and I do not have any leaders
, but those schools are the ones I am really looking at right now. Those schools are showing a lot of interest in me. They send a lot of letters, they communicate through my head coach Bob Sphire about me and those have just been showing a lot of interest.

"I am going to take a lot of visits this fall, then make my decision December 17, on my father's birthday." He is going to be busy in the coming months with a decision date now less than four months away.

Over the summer, Morris made stops in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Athens, Oxford and Columbia.

He visited the Swamp on three different occasions in June, so the Gators definitely have his attention. "Florida is just a great place in the Sunshine State. The first two times I went down there in the summer, I just wanted my parents to see what it was like. I liked it already, then I got them down there too. I went back a third time and worked out with coach Hevesy. I like him a lot and Florida is a school I will get back to this season."

The Gamecocks were the first school to offer Morris, so that is always in the back of his mind, so after two more visits to Columbia in June, Will Muschamp and his staff have shown this elite junior that their program is on the rise. "I really like where South Carolina is going as a program. The program is coming up, they are doing some good things and I like it up there a lot. Everyone is cool with me, they treat me well and it is always calm, cool and relaxing up there."

He was at Alabama once and Georgia twice over the summer, and it is those schools that Morris has really connected well with. "I have strong relationships with a lot of schools and a lot of coaches, but with Georgia and Alabama, I have really strong connections with their coaches," said Morris. Both are great schools in general. Both have great coaches, both have great academics, both make me feel comfortable and I just have connected with the schools well overall."

Morris knows he will be back in Athens for the Notre Dame game September 21, then he is working on planning his first trip to Clemson, then return trips to Alabama, Auburn, Florida and some others. He wants to get out as much as he can because he is set on committing the week before Christmas.

"It is a very important fall for me because I have a big decision coming up. I am going to be busy and I am going to get out as much as I can. I want to see crowds on game-day, I want to see how teams play, I want to see where the connection with the coaches is and each visit will be important. I am committing December 17, on my father's birthday, so I am looking hard at schools this season." Morris said he has no order at this time.
