@ whitefoot and all LSU fans

Congrats on Jaquelin Roy!

ETA: I read an announcement preview article (VIP) today by Steve Wiltfong. In it, Jaquelin Roy"s father talked about how much they both liked and respected the programs and coaching staffs at LSU, ATM and Bama. He said his son had grown up a huge LSU fan and that it's always been his dream and goal to play in Tiger stadium. They both seem like genuinely good people. My sincere best wishes to Jaquelin, except when we're playing LSU of course.

Scheduled Commits: 2020 | 2021 (247Sports)

Top targets expected to commit by August 31:

4-star S/CB Xavion Alford 6-0.5/188 TX hudl
-- "Coach Saban, every time I go up there, he makes it clear that he really wants me... It could be today, tomorrow, a month from now, it could be real soon.”

4-star CB Nadab Joseph 6-2/180 Juco hudl
-- Hank recently said he thinks Nadab Joseph or Xavion Alford could pop next.

5-star RB Kendall Milton 6-2/220 CA hudl *
-- Announcing July 29, 7-pm; apparently to UGA.

4-star WR EJ Williams 6-3.5/192 AL hudl *
-- Announcing August 24 at 5-pm, his father's birthday. At The Opening Finals on June 30, he said Bama is #1 and Clemson #2. But the concensus among 247 analysts is that he's still trending to Clemson. He camped at Clemson in June and said he plans to attend their "All In" big recruiting event the last weekend in July.

5-star RB Zachary Evans 5-11/200 TX hudl
-- Has said he may commit before FB season, but has also said he'll take as long as he needs to be sure of his decision.

Top targets scheduled to commit after August:

4-star DB/WR Joel Williams 6-1.5/180 LA hudl
-- Announcing September 9 at 6-pm.

4* OLB/TE Reggie Grimes 6-4.5/240 TN hudl
-- Announcing November 2.

4-star ILB Jordan Banks 6-1/228 CA hudl
-- Late November, per June Champions Cookout post-visit article (BOL-VIP).

4-star DT Jacobian Guillory 6-2/331 LA hudl *
-- Announcing December 20.

4-star DT McKinnley Jackson 6-2/327 MS hudl
-- Announcing February 5.

According to Jordan Burch's 247 profile page he has no scheduled announcement date. His mom is the gatekeeper in his recruitment and neither of them reveal much to the recruiting media. The current concensus seems to be that hometown USCe, Bama and UGA are in it, moreso than Clemson. Burch and his mom are very impressed with what Bama offers. If mom will let him go away to school, I like our chances.

So, we're down one linebacker. Who could take his place?

Allen and Parks as the back ups I guess with the freshmen getting a crack at the 2 deep.

Do you think that Saban will want to bring in another linebacker this year? Possibly push harder for Grimes?

Yeah, that's what I meant. That seems the most likey. I hope Parks excels.

I hate to see Anoma leave but I hope that gives Parks an opportunity to kill it!

I think the following is pretty accurate right now:

Bama wants to take one more LB, maybe two, and can afford to be selective. ILB is a bigger need than OLB.

Bama's top/realistic LB targets appear to be:
ILB Justin Flowe
LB Phillip Webb
ILB Jordan Banks
OLB Donell Harris

Our chances don't look very good with ILB Noah Sewell. Reggie Grimes plans to commit on Nov 2, and among others is behind those top four guys on the board. Bama will take both Flowe and Webb if they want in. Banks is a backup plan to Flowe and plans to commit in late Nov. If Bama doesn't get one of Flowe or Webb by then, they'll want to take Banks at that point.

ETA: A poster on BOL said he heard from a reliable source that Grimes is now willing to bulk up into a DE if he came to Bama, which might improve his chances of getting a spot. Also, in a very recent GoVols247 article Grimes talked like he really wants to come to Bama, is willing to work hard and wait his turn because the developent he'd get is in his best interest.

Remember that we don't play much Sam anymore, and so our OLB depth chart is basically Jack and rabbit rushers. And so, at Jack the depth chart would have Jennings and Lewis, and then Allen, and whoever is fourth, maybe Parks. I'm not saying this to correct anyone, but rather to lay bare the fact that even with Anoma's potential departure, our OLB depth is fine, assuming most stay healthy (which is a bit of an assumption).

Anoma leaving definitely hurts depth and talent. The sucky thing is that had we known he was going to bail on his team at the 9th hour, we could have signed another stud OLB in the last class.

Bama is loaded at OLB, the one place Bama could lose players.

Anoma is a huge loss for next year, he is a 1st round talent.

That remains to be seen.

I think Anoma is off the team for good, but that hasn't been officially announced. Whether or not he's a huge loss is debatable. He has a lot of talent, but it takes more than that to make it to the NFL, especially as a first round draft pick. Failing to do what it takes to make it at Bama doesn't bode well for a future in the NFL. I hope he learns from his mistakes and gets straight. Best wishes to him.

Anoma's departure would open a spot under the 85 total counters limit, but not the 25 signings and 25 initial counters limits. However, it might enable Bama to utilize the Voluntary Withdrawal Exception rule to give a replacement scholarship (that doesn't count against the 25 limits) to a 2020 or 2021 recruit. How Bama can sign 27 (link from this thread's 1st post) exolains how that rule can be used.
