11. Reggie Grimes (WDE/TE)
-- ranked above:
15. Arik Gilbert
37. Drew Sanders
54. William Anderson
80. Quandarrius Robinson

Tenner and USCe are Grimes' best options so far. 111 seems more appropriate than 11. Grimes is athletic for his size, but so far he looks pretty raw and kinda soft too. He needs to show significant improvement this season and in a post season all star event to be worthy of a top 50 ranking, let alone the #11 player in the entire country. Smh.

Wonder if Grimes would be a good option at TE.

I'm certainly no expert and could be dead wrong, but I think TE might actually be Grimes' natural best-fit position.

Reading this 247 evaluation of Grimes, it kind of screams jumping to tight end especially when you add he is a basketball and track athlete.

quote:

Long, high cut athlete with enormous physical upside. One of the best athletes in the country from a combine perspective. Excels in track as well. Naturally strong and can deliver jarring hits. Good as a pursuit defender and easily runs down action away. Has positional versatility. Athleticism and frame combo points towards edge pass rusher but he could be effective at linebacker or on offense at tight end long term. Plays too high and is not refined. Doesn’t seek contact out. More of a finesse athlete currently. Likely an impact power five player and a mid to early round NFL Draft pick with upside as high as the first round.

I kind of wish we get him on board at TE and then if we get Washington it is icing on the cake. I know Bama would take a risk at Grimes adjusting to the position but I think (more hope) he can make the transition. Maybe his blocking would be suspect with the finesse athlete talk, but OJ learned.

I like Gilbert and Washington might be an all timer but even with that being said I doubt we get more than the traditional top end college TE production (between 30-50 catches, 400-600 yards) out of any of them based on our offensive history. In college they are all size speed mismatches.

I always felt and still feel Washington comes to Bama. But, I have to wonder if Gilbert needs his head examined because why go to either UGA with your OC being Chaney's understudy (Coley) or go to Tennessee and Chaney be your OC? In either of those cases why would you think the TE position especially would be handled correctly?

Yep, that evaluation is what had given me the feeling that he might be better suited at TE than WDE/OLB. Iirc, I've read that he's played some TE. But I haven't watched his film to see if there's any of him at TE. So I have no idea how good of a blocker, route runner and pass catcher he is. From what I've read about him, it sounds like he'll be at least somewhat of project no matter what position he fits best. I don't think he's likely to get a spot in Bama's class.

ETA: I just watched Grimes' 2018 Offensive Highlights. Nothing but him lining up as an HBack and running misdirection jet and toss sweeps wide against meh competition. No hightlights of him blocking or being thrown a pass downfield or even behind the LOS.

I don't think he would see Coley as that bad. He worked with Nick O'Leary at FSU (granted Nick's best years were after he left), his leading receiver was a TE one year at Miami, he also worked with Njoku for a year and Nauta. Add proximity to home and it seems reasonable. Now UT makes no sense.

I wish we could have got one more year Irv. He was so much fun last year.

Nauta is exactly why I wouldn't touch Coley.

Basically it's down to Bama, Georgia and A&M and all 3 will get an official visit. He referred to Bama as RBU and it sounded very positive for Bama. he isn't expected to stop in T town after his uga visit but Tim alluded to the staff working on trying to change that.

A few more nuggets: Evans very rarely does interviews. Everything he said about Bama was quite positive. He likes Huff A LOT.

He said it be nice for his mom to be able to easily come to his games if he goes to ATM. Then he said she doesn't care where he goes, she just wants him to go to college.

Evans said he's taking his time and said the most important factor that'll trigger him finalizing a decision and committing to a school is him reaching the point of feeling at home there.

Hank said he thinks it's mainly a Bama vs ATM battle. An insider said Bama is still leading.

Per a GoVols247 article, Reggie Grimes may opt to visit UT instead of coming to Bama's cookout.

2018's 2nd cookout also had a small turnout.

I think Cullen Montgomery is our Dalcourt for this year.

This is the face of a man who is ready to commit out of nowhere.

Either that or he has gas.

Gilbert's high school QB teammate, Harrison Bailey, is committed to UT and they plan on using him as a jumbo WR, not a TE.

It's appealing for a young kid.
