I think Bama will keep all 3 current WR commits. Baker and Holden are both underrated by the recruiting sites. Right now I think the two more likely additions are Smith and either Burton or Boutte. Henderson and Williams appear to be trending to Clemson. Burton and Smith would be better gets than Boutte, imo. Those five would be a great WR haul.

Baker is taking all his OVs though and said he's like 85-90% committed.

I hope he does stick...

Hank talked to Baker at The Opening about his commitment status. He sounds like he's feeling more solid now. He said he's got a great relationship with Coach Wiggins and Saban too, and loves the family vibe at Bama. He'll be at the Champion's Cookout later this month.

University of Alabama self-reports 16 minor NCAA violations (BamaOnLine)
quote:

The University of Alabama’s athletic department self-reported 16 separate minor NCAA violations between Levels 3 and 4 from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019, according to a violations summary posted on the school’s athletics website late Friday afternoon.

The Crimson Tide football team, however, only self-reported two violations. The first was when an assistant coach called a prospective student-athlete twice in one week outside of a contact period, while the second was when an assistant coach had contact with prospects prior to the permissible time period.

Alabama’s men’s basketball team also self-reported three violations, including when student-athletes received extra benefits involving pregame access to sideline and access to special seating area during a home football contest. Another occurred when a new hire name was not sent to the conference office to review his compliance background, while a third violation involved personalized desserts during official visits for recruits.

Below is a full list of Alabama’s minor NCAA violations and the corrective actions taken... (read more)

PSA: The 2021 Top Targets list (3rd post) is now up to date. Sorry for neglecting it somewhat for the last few months. I just didn't have the time.

I would like to see us land one of the bigger targets in Henderson or williams.
The jump ball threat big WR's who can run put's on a defense is something we have not be able to handle as for Clemson.
There core basically bailed out a lot of 3rd & long situations.
Now we can say(which I agree) that we should have went after Clemson's QB,more on third downs instead of playing it safe.
But that also would mean no two deep that Nick likes to play a lot of on third down.

Also we have lacked a big wr threat in the red zone on back corner fades to pull safety out the box,
to help CB's.I dont know if it was a Cam or
now a shavers or just our offensive inability to develop big WR's.

Because over the last 4-5 years we have not had that in our offensive ability.
We do great with inside guys or route run or run after the catch guys.
So getting a big that can change the field is a must.I hope Holden is better than Williams,
but I do feel Henderson is special and would hate to see Clemson land both he & Williams.
As we really need a big Wr that a threat down field.

I'm holding out that Shavers will grow into this role.  6’6, 205lbs with a 4.38 40 at "The Opening" in Houston out of HS. But, RS year and a couple injuries aside, it just hasn't happened for him, yet.

What we saw from Tide's top targets at The Opening (BamaOnLine | includes video)

As always, 247Sports was on hand to cover the event throughout its entirety, gleaning a good bit of information on some of the top recruits in America.

The Opening Final Cut — QB Bryce Young 247Sports | embedded video)
quote:

FRISCO, TX — 247Sports was on-site for The Opening Finals and there was a ton of footage shot from the event. Over the course of the next week, we are putting together video packages from the showcase to bring fans a look at what it was like inside The Star.

Today's highlight features Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star quarterback Bryce Young, the nation's top dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2020. According to 247Sports, Young is listed as the No. 18 overall player in the entire country, No. 1 dual-threat talent nationally and No. 4 recruit in California this cycle. The 247Sports Composite Rankings peg him as the No. 37 overall player this cycle, No. 1 player at his position and No. 6 target from. his home state.

Check out video of Young's performance in Texas at the top of the article.

The 5-11, 185-pounder has been committed to USC since July 25, 2018. A recruitment that looked completely shutdown early has picked up some steam as of late. UCLA, Miami, Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon and many others all offered throughout his process, but Alabama looks to be the top contender for the longtime Trojans pledge. There was a lot of buzz regarding the Crimson Tide while in Texas for The Opening and Elite 11 finals, so keep an eye on those two programs moving forward.

247Sports Scouting Report via national analyst Greg Biggins

"Has a slight frame and needs to bulk up and add some size and strength. Holds the ball low, which can make his release elongated, but he gets the ball out extremely quick to compensate. Has a live arm and is able to throw just as well outside the pocket as he does from inside. His ability to escape pressure and extend plays is as good as you’ll see at the high school level. Will scramble to make a play with his arm more than taking off and running, although he does have the ability to run for plus yards. Almost looks more comfortable when the play breaks down and he can improvise and make a play with his instincts. Plays with a poise and savvy beyond his years. Never looks flustered or nervous in the pocket. Has improved his touch and accuracy on the deep ball, but it’s an area we think he can continue to get better. Has an advanced feel in the pocket and is excellent going through progressions and finding his secondary targets. Has an extremely high football IQ and will have no problem picking up a complex college playbook. Is a natural leader, a winner and the guy you want leading your team on a last-minute drive."

As a junior, Young completed 231 of 331 passes for 3,846 yards, 39 touchdowns and only six interceptions. He also rushed for an additional 286 yards and four scores.

The Opening Finals is an invite-only event, which includes four days of dynamic training, coaching and competition for the country’s most elite high school football players. Every position and every aspect of the game will be highlighted over the course of the three-day program. The Opening Finals is undoubtedly the most high profile high school football event in the nation. Notable alumni from the event include Jalen Ramsey, Trevor Lawrence, Ezekiel Elliott, Landon Collins, Tua Tagovailoa, and many others across the landscape of college football and in the National Football League.

Elite West Coast ATH has connection to Alabama (BamaOnLine | Mar 6, 2019 | video)
quote:

UPDATE 7/6/19 -- Egbuka has set a visit to Alabama for July 29

The Crimson Tide offered Emeka Egbuka, the nation’s No. 2 athlete in 2021, on Monday.

The Steilacoom (Wash.) product got the news when he called offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins.

“It’s pretty surreal,” Egbuka told BamaOnLine.

Despite listed as an athlete, it’s the wide receiver position where the Tide is recruiting the West Coast standout.

“They were just really excited about me,” Ebugka said. “They said they don’t normally come out west unless the guy is a really talented player. They think I’m a guy who can impact early if I were to go there. They’re really excited to have me on campus in the future and stuff like that.”

A lot about Alabama appeals to Egbuka, including a special tie he has to the school.

“It’s my grandma’s alma mater, so I have that connection there,” he said. “Obviously they’re like the dominant team every year in college football. It’s really crazy to know that I have an offer from them.”

Egbuka’s grandmother was happy to hear the news as well.

“She was just excited and surprised like most of my family was,” Egbuka said. “It’s Bama and it’s U-Dub (Washington) in my grandparents’ household.”

Sarkisian has ties to the Pacific Northwest from a stint as head coach at Washington.

“He can relate to me on stuff about the West Coast, but I don’t think the coaching staff not being from where I’m from is going to be that big of a factor,” Egbuka said.

The four-star athlete hopes to get to Tuscaloosa this summer.

Next up on the calendar on March 21-23 are stops at Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan in that order.

At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Egbuka is rated the No. 2 athlete and the No. 38 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

I’m not bashing you but what is up with everyone’s obsession with big, tall WR’s? You would think with our success at WR our model should be fine. But for some reason everyone is obsessed with a low percentage play the we don’t ever run (jump ball on fade). Give me the better WR, not one that’s taller.

I imagine it has something to do with the way Clemson's big, tall WRs abused our secondary in 2016 and 2018.

I don't care how big they are as long as they catch the ball.

Big tall receivers are certainly a part of that but it’s also an indictment of our DBs not turning and finding the ball so they can defend the pass.
