Young and the UA staff stay in frequent communication. Nick Saban FaceTimed with the family last week.
“Just the opportunity to come in and compete,” Young said of Saban’s pitch. “That’s something that’s going to be wherever I’m at. I’m going to have to compete and work and prove myself wherever I go. He’s talked to me about the quarterback room, how he would love to see me compete and work. It’s a big honor to talk to Coach Saban and Coach Sark. I have a lot of respect for them and their program.”
Young gave his thoughts on the depth chart in Tuscaloosa.
“Tua (Tagovailoa) most likely will be gone, so I think that’s something to consider,” he said. “It’s a great situation. Again, I have a lot of respect for Alabama and the system they run there. Just for me, it’s kind of more overwhelming the fact that I get to be a Trojan. That’s where my head’s at.”
When it comes to the Trojans, a lot of uncertainty surrounds Clay Helton and his job security if USC falters for a second straight year. Young says he’s not worried.
“I don’t (have concerns) because I have complete confidence in the staff and the players that they’re going to be successful,” he said.
Should there be a change at head coach this season, would that affect Young’s recruitment?
“My heart would still be at SC,” he said. “For me, it obviously would depend on who they brought in. I don’t see it happening, but I still have to step back and look at things, look at systems and stuff like that.”
At 6-foot, 176 pounds, Young is rated the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 37 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Drew Sanders not happy at all about missing The Opening (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama commit Drew Sanders' plans to compete at The Opening Finals this week in Frisco, Texas fell through after he pulled his hamstring on Tuesday.
The 247Sports Composite five-star athlete that lives just down the road in Denton will likely still stop by the event, but won't be able to participate.
Sanders' absence had some -- that didn't have knowledge of his injury -- questioning why he wouldn't work out this week.
"I want to compete in it, but if I can't run I can't compete," Sanders told BamaOnLine over text message. "We start our football in August and the goal is to win a state title. I need to stay healthy."
Sanders' importance to Ryan High School's football team can't go understated. The do-it-all playmaker amassed 119 tackles, including 10 tackles for a loss and eight sacks last season, as well as contributing on offense, helping the Raiders to a Class 5A state semifinals appearance.
The Crimson Tide pledge is doing everything he can to exceed that production and help Ryan get to the title game in 2019.
"I weighed in at 232 (pounds), I went 10.91 (seconds) this spring in the 100 meters, broke the school record for power clean at 355 (pounds)," Sanders said. "I work my arse off every day. I'm not dodging The Opening. No where near scared of anyone there. Sorry to vent, but pissed I don't get to compete."

The five-star athlete is one of a several elite linebackers Nick Saban and staff have amassed in the 2020 cycle thus far, a class that ranks No. 2 in the country, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.
At 6-foot-5, 232 pounds, Sanders is rated the No. 3 athlete and the No. 27 overall player in the country.
Here's 247Sports' scouting report of Sanders via Gabe Brooks:
Big-framed jumbo athlete who could play high-major football on either side of the line of scrimmage in multiple spots. Owns outstanding height and frame length with a ton of space to add bulk. Physical profile fits edge defender and tight end. Playing experience at QB, tight end, receiver, and multiple spots on defense. Possesses size and athleticism to play traditional in-line tight end or a predominantly flex role. Shows good body control as a receiver. Adjusts well to the ball when needed. Encouraging consistency as a hands catcher. Owns a large catch radius. Motor runs high and physical style suggests high ceiling as a blocker. Will face adjustment to playing one position full-time after multiple roles in high school. Honing route-running precision and overall technique as a receiver will be keys in college. Great frame but must fill it out with proper bulk and strength. Can improve pad level and leverage consistency. Should become an impact Power 5 starter with the potential to reach an early-round NFL Draft projection.
Other Tide commits competing at The Opening Finals include Malachi Moore, Javon Baker, and Quandarrius Robinson.

Would hope We can land EJ Williams. That would be a big miss from the Phenix City area again.
I don't know where Williams ranks on Bama's WR board compared to Smith, Henderson and Boutte. With the 3 WR commits we have and Holden being a big bodied WR, I suspect that Smith (6-1 with blazing speed) might be #1 on the board and Henderson #2 He's 6-3.5 like Williams, but little lighter, and very fast.
It appears that Clemson is aiming to take Williams and Henderson both. Williams has said he wants to make his decision and commit in late August, but iirc Henderson will probably take more time than that. I suppose Williams could opt to delay commiting that soon.

I ran into one of Desmond Evans coaches today at lunch. Apparently trying to set up a possible UOV this summer and come in the fall for an OV. One of our coaches he said visited last month and Evans is excited but we do have some ground to make. Though he said a visit would definitely help.
Mack Brown is making him a priority to prove he can keep the top instate players home. Another player from his HS is already committed and they are looking at 2 more and a friend of his down the road. His HS is only about 45 minutes from both UNC and NC State so he also has friends at both places and tends to visit both to hang out.
Not sure where he would play like a JackLB or DE as he is currently 6'6 and around 235.

Thanks for that info!
There's only one short window left during summer for face-to-face visits. It's the last week of July. That's when Bama will host its 2nd Champion's Cookout. August is a dead period.

According to Hank Bama is trending big behind the scenes for Bryce Young despite what he says in public about USC

Thanks for the heads up. I just now read that Bryce Young intel piece by Hank and Wiltfong. It does sound pretty encouraging.
I love Wiltfong's remark: "There's a Sark in the water..." But it may be good that Young likes Helton a lot too, since he may get fired and then end up on Bama's off-field staff.

Don't you think we need 5-6 WRs this year? We only got one last year and lose maybe 3-4 this to draft/ transfer this year. We might only get four this year but that should only be if we fail to attract anymore.
Let's see how Coach Saban plays this.

I don't think Bama will need or have room to take more than 4-5 WRs.
Wide Receiver (9) * = redshirt
SR: None
JR: Jerry Jeudy, DeVonta Smith, Henry Ruggs
SO: Tyrell Shavers*, Chadarius Townsend*, Jaylen Waddle
FR: Xavier Williams*, Slade Bolden*, John Metchie
I suppose we could lose Jeudy, Smith and Ruggs, but Smith might stay another year. I only see 2 WRs on the roster who might transfer, since most would have to sit out for a year. Shavers and Townsend enrolled early in Jan 2017, so if they've been taking enough summer term classes, it's possible for them to have their degrees by May 2020 and grad transfer. In my estimation, Jeudy, Ruggs and Shavers are the only WRs we're likely to lose.
Under the 85 limit, 9-10 is adequate for WR depth, since some can play multiple WR spots. And Billingsley will likely play split wide as a WR until he bulks up. Also, Bama has DBs on its roster who could play WR, if we had a rash of WR injuries.
No doubt Bama would love to land several more of the talented WR targets they're recruiting. But besides the 85 total limit, Bama can only take 27 in this cycle. That mock class I posted already has 4 commits dropping out of the class in order to fit the guys listed. And it illustrates the tough decisions Bama has to make in passing on some prospects they really like who want in.
Bama's most critical need for more quality depth is ILB and we'll likely lose more OLs, OLBs and DBs than WRs. And those are developmental positions, whereas it's much more common for WRs to play and even start as freshmen. Those positions are also more prone to injury than WR.
Who should Bama scratch from that mock class list to take 6 WRs? I suppose if we miss on Bryce Young or one of the DB targets, or if maybe McLaughlin is willing to grayshirt, we might take a 6th WR.
Like you said, we'll see how Saban plays it as the dominoes fall.

Would be nice to get just one of the DL from Louisiana but you think we have a good shot at both ? I read where someone on BOL thinks we get Roy
Posted on 6/30/19 at 9:38 am to Bear88
Based on what I've seen from Hank, Tim and good insider posters on BOL, Roy may be the most likely of all our uncommitted top targets to sign with Bama. According to them Guillory is also a take and Bama is in a good spot with him too. You probably read it here, since that's been posted recently about those two.

Is the National Championship game in New Orleans this year? If we make it there I want to go and I’m just trying to figure out where it is going to be.
