Sadly enough, they aren't that far off from the reputation we have as a basketball program. I sincerely hope Avery can change the culture and bring more basketball fans to the university.

I'm telling you it wasn't always that way! Yes, we suck as a fan base at supporting a mediocre basketball team. If we ain't winning and dancing, we ain't going. It's as simple as that. You have to keep in mind that most Bama basketball fans are football fans first, then hoops fans. So they are used to winning and winning big. So the NIT is the equivalent of the football team going to Shreveport in December. It doesn't sell. But when CM Newton was dancing, there was support. When it was Wimp's Plaid Palace, hell yes, there was support. Same with Gottfired. The Wimp Era was unique because he was head coach from 1981 to 1992, a period when the football team was down. It was the only time in my lifetime that you could make the argument that at least in certain years during that era, the basketball team was better supported and liked than the football team. We are the typical football first school; we love our basketball team, but only when they are winning. The hardcore fans will go no matter what, but those are a small core for hoops. You only pack the house and get it rocking when you are winning and winning big and the casual fan who only becomes interested after the bowl game is involved. The support is there, you just have to earn it.

The Wimp years were wonderful. Bama was always a dangerous team back then. The Plaid Palace was always electric.

Kentucky extended a new offer to Shai Alexander. Might be another good sign that points to Petty committing to Alabama on 11/10.
