He averaged 4.43 TO / Game in SEC play last year which is pretty rough for a non primary ball handler

Braxton was a high "usage" player last year with 25.4% Possession% (#301 Nat'l) and 73.3% of minutes. Considering that amount of use though, his offensive output was fairly pedestrian at 12.0ppg KenPom ORtg 94.8

Braxton is an extremely talented player, but he needs to start developing and growing if he wants to be anything more than a role player.

Mercer is not just as good as a P5 team. Not an average Power 5 team, at least.

Mercer would finish last in the SEC this year, probably by a few games at least too.

Mercer would not be the worst matchup in the SEC for a very young team coming off a hard stretch + Winter break "lull" game though because

Mercer "Experience Stats"

Continuity: #11 75.6%
Experience: #13 2.4Yrs (Avg Player is either JR/SR 2=JR 3=SR)
3P FG%: #9 42.5%
FT% : #35 76.1%

Yep. Also #30 in offensive efficiency. Last night was roughly what I expected defensively. Give them trouble with length and pressure but get schemed some and give up 3's. The Holland kid has the #1 Offensive Rating in the country. His TS% is 77%, which seems absurd, and then you see he is shooting 60% from 3. SIXTY! And it isn't like he shoots 1 a game, he's 33/55 this season.

To be honest, y'all got "lucky"** that they shot so poorly from 3FG at 37%. That was their 2nd worst 3FG shooting% of the year. I mena Jelks was avg 59.2% 3FG before the game went 1-5 while Strawberry was 34.1% 3FG went 2-7

** I didn't watch the game so maybe ya'll forced bad 3s, I'm just pointing out that Mercer consistently has more 3 shots fall

Well it is about frickin time. They seem to be one of the few teams who hasn't shot well above their normal 3pt avg against us.

Well not really. We were averaging 37% from 3 before last night and shot 21% ourselves. So were they lucky too?

I put it in quotes + a disclaimer indicating what I meant below

Only 5/11 opponents have done that

> avg 3FG%- Zona, UCF, Minn, UTAR, Bama A&M
< avg 3FG%- RI, LaTech, BYU, Lipscomb, Memphis, Mercer

That makes two of us. He's had some good games, but I've never been very high on him. Those horrible passes he threw last night were nothing new for him.

As far as the team, I never fooled myself into thinking they were going to the Final Four. I expected some bad games, and we're getting them. I just hope they get better and get into the tournament and win a game or two. I'd be happy with that. Anything else is would be fantastic.
I said basically the same thing last year and some folks around here really got bent out of shape! The guy seems to get "lazy" with the ball, and his decision making was very poor at times. I really hope he comes around, but posted last week about folks getting their expectations dashed if he's the same type player.

They shot poorly early on and kind of played rushed. They had a bunch of 1st half turnovers. It was an ugly 1st half of basketball on both ends offensively. 2nd half was basically the opposite.

Then again, we went 0/16 from 3PT in the 1st half (6/12 in the 2nd half) and I'd wager that 12 of those 1st half shots were set feet wide open looks and we just missed them. All of them. So it probably evened out

Wimp is just old and grumpy.

But nobody on this earth loves Ala basketball more than him.

TEAM WIMP!

He has an issue with TOs, but to be fair in SEC play he kind of was our primary ball handler last year...

He's annoying as hell as a commentator. Or at least when he's awake to commentate. He either states the obvious, beats a dead horse, or mistakes one of our players or one of the calls. I recall him mistaking a foul call that led him to beat said dead horse about how blocking is over called. The color guy corrected him twice, and he still didn't end his rant. Personally, I think it's time for him to retire... from anything basketball related.

Some of y'all need to lighten up imo. Wimp isn't particularly good during games, but he was born before the 2nd World War. He's commentated only online games this year. A lot of our posters seem to be perpetually mad

The problem is there is legit no better alternative, especially in the South.

Pick 3. Well... Maybe just 2

- Knows Basketball
- Knows the teams on the call
- Capable of providing coherent commentary
- Willing to work for cheap

ESPN puts out shite commentators in general, no way the local radio or small exposure game is getting someone even bearable

He even makes me laugh during games. He's blunt and grouchy and I'd rather hear that all day than Dickie V. being loud and obnoxious.

I realize he's old. It's the exact reason that I think he's terrible at his current job and should retire. I'm not mad, but I'm also not going to let the guy slide because he's an Alabama legend. He's our Lou Holtz.

For the record I'm this way with all commentators. I loved watching Reggie Miller in his prime, but he's a terrible commentator.

Funniest damn thing about Wimp is that he still has that old house phone. You can tell when he doesn't show up to the studios at Tide 102.9, or is interviewed at Jox. You can hear him hanging his phone up.
