So when looking up the stats, an astounding 63.3% of FGs were assisted FGs by Bama, well above their season average of 51% (#206 natl)

63.3% would be a top 5 assisted fg % nationally

I quoted the above from my previous post so it didn't get lost. It is a great stat

#4 seed gone from the East.

I can't wait for tomorrow and frick the NCAA for making us play late last night and first tomorrow? How about some common sense with that decision? Time-wise the games should be played in the same order.

I'd point out that it was on 8% & 12% possession% though. Typically that would suggest their teammates put them in advantageous matchups/situations

Definitely, but the point is they were near perfect in efficiently finishing those situations. Donta has been that way all year, but we've struggled to find another big man do that for a decade now.

Galin caught cleanly, made the right pass/shot and was flawless. That in and of itself is a gigantic deal.

Petty squared up a little better last night. I don't know what he's doing with his legs . Seems like his balance would be off a lot.

It is something you (George) really should always include when using efficiency metrics

I work from the place that this thread is like guys sitting around a TV talking about what they are watching. I assume most who watched the game have a general idea of the usage rate of our guys.

So Reese didn't play much because he's sort of slow, bad matchup on D? He got 3 rebounds in 7 minutes which is good, just didn't play much.

I bet he plays more Saturday.

With a Murray St victory, we wear white in the Sweet 16 game.

I wasn't trying to downplay that as much as identify their performance as flawless secondary scoring options + give a proper benchmark to compare to previous great outings

I'd argue that's actually one of the more dangerous places to be, as you can easily mistake this game as being one of Hall's best/biggest offensive impact games by assuming season avg poss%/usage rate.

Hall/Smith were flawless as supporting/secondary role players and being great in that role has a major impact on the game. It just can easily be confused with being a Hall/Smith in the specific game vs VT as being significantly more than that.

Obviously there is the counter arguemnt "Well if you watch you know they ahd lower poss%" which I'd counter with advanced stats are designed to give insight on things hard to see with the naked eye. So it is easy to mislead using stats

I'm extremely sensitive to this because I recently had to explain to someone on the AU board how Yante Maten vs AU 155 ORTG 8-8 2FG 20pt game vs AU was actually a solid game of post defense by Auburn. I mean it soudns nuts, but it was as uccessful night of post D

I'm with ya - it's honestly really hard to discuss some of the "advanced metrics" (though at this point they are pretty mainstream) with the general public aka the Rant. I really don't even attempt it anymore.

I know what you meant, too. People see that "number" and think it's just a score that says who was the best player/who played the best game, when it reality it's much like comparing YPC numbers. Just because RB A averaged 8.7 YPC on 4 carries doesn't mean he had a more productive and game changing performance than RB B that averaged 5.7 YPC on 26 carries. But then again, it does exactly what it claims to do : measures the EFFICIENY of the opportunities the player had. That's too hard for folks to understand

But at some point it just becomes too frustrating explaining the same things over and over, as you know.
