I disagree. As I've said before, both programs benefit by the other succeeding. The standards/support of both programs increase when both schools are competitive, instate bball interest goes up (better recruits) plus national exposure
I don't think Avery agrees/gets it though. He regularly seems defensive about Bama v Auburn over the years and doesn't do his part. Bruce meanwhile will say "Bama is one of the most XYZ" or talks them up
ETA: I'm fine w players trash talking, getting chippy etc. They should care about the game. I just want them to be cool off the court and respect each other + accomplishments.
AU/Bama doesn't need to belittle the other side. They both have achieved a lot this yr

Avery was very complimentary of Auburn on his pregame radio show Friday, as much as I've ever heard for sure.
He got called names at Aub last year and is chippy about it. He mentioned that on his post game radio show after the Aub game in Ttown, he refused to say what was said.

Without knowing what was said directly after the bump. I really think it's both guys fault. Unless the strength guy wasn't paying attention, he should have made an attempt to move at least a little.

I agree with all that Gene but the Bruce salesman act compared to "We kicked their arse" and the bump incident makes quite a few of us roll our eyes at the sincerity of it all.
I like him and think he's fun, but I also take it all at face value. He's an assassin like everyone else, and the aw shucks schtick can get a little old sometimes when you then see things like "we kicked their arse!" (Which by itself I have zero issue with, just when combined with the aw they're great stuff).
And Bruce already has a resume. He's confident in what he can do. Avery is still trying to prove himself and is notoriously a bit thin skinned. My guess is he knows Bruce's schitck and wants to establish himself and his comfort level in his job before being buddy buddy we're all good.
