First part was the women's team, after that it was all the men's team. They put 20 minutes on the clock and put the score at 50-50 and let them scrimmage. Was mostly offense, they didn't really try on defense. Was sort of like the NBA All-Star game. The White team won 106-103, mainly because John Petty was shooting lights out from 3. Avery said they've sold 6k season tickets which is a record and 7k people showed up tonight. They ended the event by letting a few of the players show off dunks they had worked on. Sexton had the best one (a dunk over Dazon)

I came away impressed by Giddens. Obviously they weren't playing much defense, but he has a more rounded offensive skillset than I'd seen from him to that point. He has a nice mid-range, face up shot.

Giddens looks great. He's a beast. I can away impressed with Galin Smith too. This is a guy who would be seeing a lot of minutes as a true freshman in years past, I think. He seems to have pretty good hands for a big man.. that's something we've lacked over the years.

Avery said he will run an 8-9 man rotation this year. If I had to guess..
Ingram
Sexton
Petty
Key
Norris
Hall
Giddens
AJ Jr (I disagree, but still think he will be in it)
And one of Jones/Reese/Smith. I'd lean Herb Jones right now

Donta just looks like he has gotten better to me.

Also, I know the hype Sexton gets but John Petty is our best player IMO.

I was also impressed with Herb Jones,Daniel Giddens, and Tevin Mack(sucks he cant play this year)

I hope this is true. We need a good true center who can be a good rim protector. Doesn't necessarily have to make shots, just defend the paint well.

my favorite part of all of this is 7,000 folks attended.

That's a good sign. People are fired up.

I remember Anthony Grant's last year, we could barely get like 2,000 people to show up for a game. Now we're getting 7,000 just for practices. It's amazing what you can accomplish with a good coach

That would have been a good crowd for Gottfried's last game.

Giddens had an intimidating presence in person, can't wait to see him play this year.

BYU Preview

Last Season
22-12 (12-6)
3rd in the West Coast Conference
NIT First Round
RPI: 65

Preseason
Star big Eric Mika (20/10) left early to play in Italy professionally
The Cougars welcome three eligible newcomers and four players who are returning from their mission
Kenpom: 72

Projected Lineup
G TJ Haws 6'4" - 13.9/2.9/3.2 SO
G Nick Emery 6'2" - 13.1/3.0/2.4 JR
G Elijah Bryant 6'5" - 11.7/3.6/2.2 JR
F Yoeli Childs 6'8" - 9.3/8.2/1.2 SO
F Luke Worthington 6'10" - DNP Last Season JR

Analysis
The Cougars return 3 productive guards, but you have to wonder if their numbers will stay as solid without a big commanding doubles in the post. Yoeli Childs had a productive freshman campaign, but he'll need to make a massive leap to resemble Mika. BYU rarely struggles to score under coach Dave Rose, so this one has the potential to be a shootout.

Mack was draining 3 balls out the gate and then the announcer had to remind me he doesn't play this year.

If there is anything we know about all of Alabama's opponents since the dawn of time it is that if they have someone who is even remotely capable of completely going off, then they absolutely will.

I forgot to post this, but we have 2 new walk-ons on the team now; Cam Smith and Tyler Barnes. They both played in the scrimmage yesterday. I haven't seen any info on them like height and weight, so I haven't posted them on the roster yet

They might just be practice squad guys. Those two didn't have names on their jerseys.

Minnesota Preview

Last Season
24-10 (11-7)
4th in the Big Ten
NCAA Tournament 1st Round (5 seed)
RPI: 20

Preseason
Kenpom: 36
Ranked 15th in the coaches poll

Projected Lineup
PG Nate Mason 6'2" - 15.2/3.6/5.0 SR
SG Dupree McBrayer 6'5" - 11.1/2.0/2.7 JR
SF Amir Coffey 6'8" - 12.2/3.8/3.1 SO
PF Jordan Murphy 6'6" - 11.3/8.8/0.9 JR
C Reggie Lynch 6'10" - 8.4/6.1/0.5 (3.5 blocks) SR

Analysis
With almost all of the pieces returning from last year's squad, Minnesota has a chance to win the B1G this season. Nate Mason is the key player for this squad. He is good scorer and distributer for their offense. Defensively, Reggie Lynch set a record for blocks last season and earned B1G defensive player of the year.

For us to win this one, getting Lynch in foul trouble will be key. He struggled with fouls a year ago. The number of minutes he missed against MTSU cost them their tournament game. Behind Lynch is TAMU transfer Davonte Fitzgerald who hasn't played since the 2014-2015 season.

Without Lynch protecting the paint, I feel that Sexton can make Mason work hard enough defensively that it'll limit his offensive game, and we can pull out a W. Amir Coffey could also be a matchup problem.

All of the new guys seem much better than the old guys. I mean it wasn't a real scrimmage but they even look better than Dazon IMO and just don't mean petty and sexton.
