As in, I can't think of a single Bama player since 2010 that would choose a 3PT shot over trying to drive the lane if given the choice.

Riley Norris. John Petty. ArMond Davis. Charvez Davis. Trevor Lacey. All of these guys did/would. Hell, you can throw in Rodney Cooper who threw up just as many 3s as 2s in his 4 years here. If I was a shooter, I'd consider avoiding playing for Alabama. Outside of the primary ball-handlers our luck with shooters has been awful. I'm pretty much already convinced that Tevin Mack, who shot around 40% from 3 on 6 attempts per game last year, is going to suck from 3.

Anybody else keep thinking "what if" on Nick King leaving the program. When he announced he was transferring, I immediately thought "Oh well. NBD." We slide him in at the 4 on this team and you have to think this season would look completely different. On top of the obvious talent he has, he would've added some much needed maturity to this team.

On Cecil’s article, in the past under Mal Moore, Cecil didn’t write that type of article without the green light and the blessing of the AD. It was an official unofficial shot across the bow to put a coach on notice that their performance was under scrutiny and wasn’t measuring up. We shall see if the tradition continues.

I've said it up and down this thread, Bama needs to teach kids how to shoot or more likely just recruit better shooters considering Avery Jr is 21 and still can't shoot.

You haven't been the only one, pal! It amazes me how a problem as important and obvious as this isn't recognized by everybody.

Even Shaq's son Shareef is a good outside shooter with solid mechanics.

I just don't see how Avery Jr could have grown up with a NBA father, around the game and seeing the greats, and not developed better mechanics as a guard. Especially since he isn't an elite athlete either

Sean Miller said he did nothing wrong and will continue to be the coach at Zona

You can see a little of the NBA in his game with the dinks and dunks when he drives in the paint..problem is, he can't usually finish...he does use the board well and I'm sure that's where he learned it.

I mean, it's true, he's a huge sunshine pumper, but you're an Auburn fan that always predicts the worst case scenario for anything Alabama Basketball related. I'd put major money on us placing higher than 10th in the SEC next year assuming nothing unexpected happens. Sexton is a big loss, but you'd have to expect pretty much no progress from the youngest returning team in the SEC for us to place 10th. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of your posts, but sometimes I feel like you are the most subtle troll of all

Did any of you catch the Tom Crean interview on Jox today at lunch? I only caught the tail end of the conversation. I guess Creen is headed to the Birmingham Tipoff Club. Said he hadn't been to Birmingham since the older Watford's wedding. Talked some about how he's known Trendon since he was 4 and liked that he could say how much he loved his game (since he's not in coaching).

Either him just being friendly or subtle blackmail to hire him.

I think Crean is a great coach. Would be a great hire if ya'll went that way

Would love to see us first try for a guy like Cronin at Cincy, Mack at Xavier or the Hurley at URI but when they inevitably turn us down I would be all for Crean. Hell if we just hired him as first choice I'd probably still be pretty juiced about it.

So I'm guessing from this that Trendon Watford's older bro played for Crean or something?

While I don't think there is a snowball's chance in Hell of Avery getting fired this year (nor do I believe he should be), Dan Hurley would be one of, if not the top name on my list. The guy has taken a formerly terrible Rhode Island team (7-24 the year before he got there) and made them into a top 25 team over the course of the past 6 years.

Haven't verified, but heard on the radio this morning that CAG had more wins his first 3 years than CAJ.

Some people look down at non P5 programs and assume their coaches are easily hirable.

A program like Cincinnati would arguably be the 2nd or 3rd best program historically in the SEC. They have a strong fan base built on that tradition along with fertile local recruiting grounds

Now that midmajors like UC are paying high salaries, their games are televised and NCAAT is willing to seed them higher, a P5 program isn't some upgrade for them

quote:

Cronin at Cincy

Trying to pull UCincinnati's coach who is from Cincinnati and went to UCincinnati may be a tough sell

That's before you realize that UC is a historically great basketball program, with fertile recruiting grounds/access and has a very passionate bball following on top of the $2.2mil salary before his likely raise at end of the year

quote:

Mack at Xavier

Literally everything about Cronin applies to Mack

-Xavier Alumnus-Check
-Ohio Raised - Check
-Xavier historically good program- check
-Salary + raise to compete with - Check

quote:

Hurley at URI

Hard to know what is in this guy's future but you'd think Bama could scoop him up.

I agree on Cronin and Mack being out of reach. I don't know if I like Hurley much. I'd be interested to see how they do without this current crop of seniors he's had.
