Well I honestly think Watford is coming regardless unless Herbert Jones were to substantially improve next yr and jump to the NBA.both Watford and Lewis have been given plenty of time and energy by THIS staff though, and pulling the trigger on Avery I believe would be premature.

I was a huge fan of hiring Tom Crean last time around.

I honestly thought we might hire him...But it was concerning how his indiana tenure took a downward turn at the end

I was mad after the loss to Arkansas and said Avery needed to go if he didn’t make the tourney. Now that I’m calmed down, here’s my thought:

We do need to make the tourney this year. It would be a failure if we didn’t, but it wouldn’t be smart at all to fire him after this year. He’s got this program relevant again when it hasn’t been in years. Everyone knows Alabama basketball now. The recruits are interested and we’ve landed some highly recruited ones so far. Also, we’ve got the 4th youngest team in college basketball, so they SHOULD be a little better next year. Now if he misses the tourney this year AND next year.....that’s when you fire him.

I still think we’re gonna make the tourney this year tho and I feel like he’s slowly getting this program back to where we all want it

Like someone said this morning..."it's a good think the selection committee isn't made up of Alabama fans, the bracketologists have us in and the fans are screaming NIT ". Lol , but making the tourney this year would be a step we need.

I'm basically where you are. Not making the NCAA tournament would be an underachievement with the roster we have. Perhaps CAJ deserves another year to show great improvement, I think he probably does.

The interesting caveat into all of this is the fact that Bill Battle hired him. With Byrne as the AD now, and we saw how fast he was to get rid of Gaspard (although I know that was a caustic situation), he seems to have made a great hire in Bohannon based on the start the baseball team is having to this season. I kind of think that if Byrne has interest from basketball coaches with a higher pedigree than Avery and a proven record of tournament appearances, then he may pull the trigger early.

Hopefully, we finish the season on a positive note, make the tourney and make some noise and all this is a bygone discussion.

I listened to a long Crean interview on Pardon My Take last week and he basically said he had other coaching options before his last year at Indiana that he considered but ultimately decided, against his better judgment, to decline talking to and stick at Indiana.

I have to think we were one of the schools that gauged interest.

Forgot who it was, but some basketball reporter made a good point. If you’re looking for a new coach this offseason, you’re gonna have a hard time bc you likely won’t know which coaches are involved in the FBI investigation and all that. Would be bad to fire Avery, hire a coach from another school, and then have to turn right around and fire him too bc of the FBI

Avery isn't getting fired this year. Zero percent chance.

Excellent point to make, the FBI scandal will have everyone probably on hold until the smoke clears and we see who isn't either in prison or banned from coaching.

Not sure I'm at 0% chance, but probably about 90% sure he'll be back given the FBI situation as mentioned already.

I do think if we tank the rest of this year, miss the tourney, you better believe Byrne will be putting out feelers about interest in the job.

I am in the same boat as y'all. If Avery doesn't make the tournament this year, then this year is a massive disappointment and his seat needs to be red hot next year with the expectation of winning at least a game in it and being no worse than a 6 seed. I feel like if he misses this year, and squeaks in as a 10 or 11 or something like that next year he should be gone. He won't be, but he should be.

I'm pretty positive we were. Crean has ties to Mich State, Izzo, and Nick Saban from his time there as an assistant bball coach.

I just want to give him one more year. He had scraps his first two seasons and this is his first college coaching gig. This may have been a little over his head. If he can't get us to 20 win easily next season and at least 4th in the SEC we probably should cut bait.

Remember, the team looked alot better w/o Sexton those two games he missed and Petty played lights out. Let's just wait to see what they do next season with some new pieces and some solid returning vets.

Yeah assuming no FBI business, Avery will be our coach next season.

Lunardi has us as a 9 seed vs Seton Hall in Charlotte

Probably right as of this moment. However, as we all know, the fear is looking forward and seeing vs Florida, @ Texas A&M, losing those and making the losing streak 5 entering St Louis at 17-14 (8-10). We won't be 9 anymore at that point.

18-13 (9-9)? Who knows, probably right on that 10 seed/play-in game edge.

Trying to get some context here but some people treat Collin like he's some cancer that we re better off without. It's kinda mind boggling because he's the only one who has brought it every game.
