@rollhoopsroll is a very good source to follow on twitter. He posted that this info announced this morning isn’t anything new.

Cecil is acting like it’s not anything new, but he said it’s possible Collin could be held out tomorrow while they sort all this out.

It sounds like it’s possible that there were 2 meals that the Sexton family received, but it could be just one. Apparently if it cost under $200, then it isn’t enough to rule him ineligible.

Bottom line: I think we’re good

U think it's just a rehash of what we knew back in November that's now public. What amazes me is none of those talking heads at ESPN mentioned that sexton had served a 1 game suspension and the NCAA reinstated him...lazy reporting if you ask me.

The only thing about last week that was bad was how we played in the 2nd half at Auburn. And it was awful and deserved scorn.

However, just losing those 2 games was not a big deal.

Losing either of the next 2 would be, though.

All of this. And even the Auburn game, it wasn't the second half. It was the last half of the second half. It was a 3 point game with 12:23 left - and then we went down faster than a truck stop hooker.

If they can keep that from carrying over to the next home games, it isn't a problem at all.

The thing that worries me most about Avery is that we haven't developed an offensive identity. I guess it's just pick and roll, but we don't really recruit to that imo. We recruit length and that's why we're already a good defensive team despite being so young. We've been pretty consistent on defense under Avery.

Maybe for his eligibility and not having to vacate wins (which I wouldn't give 2 shits about if we're NIT bound. Not having him tomorrow could be terrible news. We need this game.

Edit: Why would we hold him out if this potentially makes him ineligible the entire year? I'd play him regardless. What is that one game going to prevent if he's ineligible? It would already be a lost season.

I think we re ok tomorrow with or without him. The guys have stepped up every time he's been out, but don't get me wrong I'd rather have him lol.

Don't get me wrong, I think we matchup well with them, but Arkansas is a Jekyll and Hyde team. If Jekyll shows up tomorrow, not having Sexton would be a massive difference-maker.

I think we wouldn't miss him much tomorrow. Controlling the tempo is vital against Arkansas, and imo Dazon actually does that better than Sexton.

I think he'll play anyways.

Yeah the key was there isn't anything new in that report and compliance got ahead of this back in November ..We did everything we could do.

Agreed

I'll disagree here. I've seen too many 1-on-3 fastbreak layup misses and turnovers from Dazon. Arkansas will eat that up. He's good at knowing when to melt clock late in the game though.

People claim Sexton was too impatient at Auburn, but how do you take advantage of a team with 7-players? By pushing the tempo to tire out their players and draw more potential fouls. I think Sexton's IQ is the most underrated aspect of his game. He's a highly intelligent basketball player that knows how and when to attack weaknesses. He's also, by a country mile, the best creator we have on offense which is huge when trying to slow the game down.

While I think Arkansas is a team you want to control tempo against, our gameplan shouldn't change. If a team pushes the tempo to get a fastbreak bucket in transition, you should look to get those points back in the following transition considering their defense won't have time to recover. If you don't have it, then pull it out and melt some clock. That's another area where Sexton would be huge to have tomorrow.

I don't think you ever play at the tempo the other team wants. Auburn wants to play fast.

Eh, I think it is more a skill deficiency problem than identity problem. Hard to run a P&R offense with no reliable shooters and guys like Giddens/Reese on the roll.

Need to recruit polished shooters out of HS, because if Avery's own career or Avery Jr's development is any indication, they aren't going to start shooting after they get to Bama.

Just kidding though.... but seriously.

I :kige: this

I'd love to see Bama running a pack line defense with your personnel. No one would score on you

Reese is actually suited for the pick and pop style. Kid shoots it pretty well. You're dead on about us using a pack line defense though.

I think Reese makes a big jump next year. He knows what he needs to improve on. He also needs a year of college conditioning.

The hope for next year has to be that Reese develops the rest of his game, tones his body and can play quite a bit in the stretch 4 roll.

The other hope has to be to convince Donta to come back and develop a respectable pick and pop game. He doesn't have to become automatic, but he needs to be able to force teams to defend him on a pick and stop from 15 feet if he wants to be on a NBA roster.

I agree...Next year is very promising, still think this team can make noise though.

Reese and Smith need to get better on the defensive end.

That's step #1 for me with both of those guys.

I sure hope we worked on install for some zone offense stuff, because I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of it in spots over the next few weeks.

Agree. I think Reese needs a good offseason of collegiate workouts, too. Good news is needing to learn how to be a good defender, both in the team sense and individually, is not uncommon among freshmen.
