Guess that was my point, BYU and Memphis are better wins than beating a D2 team like miss st did. They might have 2 D2 wins but not certain.

Memphis and BYU help our RPI though just by having solid winning percentages in respectable conferences. While the committee is phasing out RPI, I still don't see them leaving us out if we end up high enough in it.

I wish we had a D2 win instead of AAMU.

I don't know why someone down voted you on that. Miss State's schedule was horrendous. I mean it was bad enough that Sankey would be justified telling them to fix it next year.

USA today still has us as a #6 seed in their updated bracket so that's something positive. I think people love downvoting posts sometimes for the hell of it. I just posted that miss st beat a D2 team which is a fact lol.

Memphis and BYU are better wins now than people realize. We tested ourselves

Testing yourself is playing @Zona, Texas or vs Rhode Island and expected to be Minnesota

Playing BYU/Memphis this year was just playing more challenging tune up games. It is like scheduling a MAAC school in football instead of a FCS school

I dunno, I think playing Manhattan in football might be worse than playing Western Carolina.

Hypothetical- if a team like Vermont beat 11 D2 teams ooc and lost to a 10-2 Kentucky team or something, Vermont would probably be #1 in RPI right?

BYUs RPI is 82 and it was a neutral site. They are not that Bad.

They would just be 0-1, technically, as all the non D1 games would be viewed as exhibitions.

Oh your point is totally fair about RPI making the tourney. I'm just saying in terms of seeding those games aren't going to be doing much for you

The point is gene is that as was mentioned miss state's schedule was pathetic and the fact some have even suggested they could get in is laughable. They could win the sec tourney and it's null and void but if they get an at large with that schedule then Bama might has well scheduled that way.

State's OOC schedule basically excluded them for the general discussion of SEC teams this year. And it will cost them a legitimate chance at the NCAAT.

And that's good, because their schedule was embarrassing.

Yeah I knew that. I don't know what I was thinking there.

They are 2-4 vs Q1 and Q2.

I'm not saying BYU is bad, but they are just making bottom half of Bamas wins if you ordered on quality.

When talking seeding, the best predictor consistently is the Strength of Record which is typically pretty close. Wins like Memphis/BYU aren't big movers in that metric because they still are expected wins by top teams

That's true George...A few talking heads have said don't count them out , but they have to win the tournament, and the point about BYU is valid...They're not some sub 100 RPI team .

I mean there is a difference between Bama squarely in at this point and MSU being a dark horse to just be on the bubble conversation

BYU would be the......2nd best team on State's OOC schedule? Pathetic.

Sucks for their kids because had they played our schedule or most of the leagues they would have performed well enough to be in good shape today.

Duquesne was a MAAC dynasty when the conference had football. I would say beating the basketball equivalent of them should be Q1 regardless of location.

Apparently from '01-'07, there was a poll that awarded a "mid-major national championship" at the FCS level. Duquesne won it once. San Diego won it twice with Jim Harbaugh as coach.

Fair point gene, I think it does more for a program in the long run to schedule well. Auburn is in Maui next year and bama has Arizona and Rhode island again, along with a tournament with Wichita St in it.
