Gene, is there a good free place to park that's within a reasonable walking distance of the arena?

Hard to really explain where I'd recommend right now. I'll try to google map it Tomorrow if I remember.

I'm sure as shite not giving you my super secret spot that both is right next to the arena and easy to leave . I'm already pissed my neighbor caught on and steals it (then people copy making it harder to do)

How much does losing McLemore hurt Auburn. I feel bad for the kid, hoping for a full recovery. Just wondering where that leaves Pearl and Co. .

Where it hits them hardest is depth. Especially in the post. Basically they can't afford another post injury, or any position, really.

Donta is the difference down the stretch for us. He has grown this season and is playing with confidence. If his play continues, he will likely play his way off of our roster and into the NBA draft.
..........................................................
Maybe, but he really needs to develop a short range jump shot and put on around 15-20 pounds. The NBA is physical, big boy ball and I'm afraid that right now Donte would get taken down low and manhandled.
Cecil had an excellent article about this very thing in today's Tuscaloosa News. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I came out of my chair when Hall knocked down that 15 ft. jumper from the baseline against Kentucky. It's obvious that the coaches are really working with him on his game, and if he gets proficient with that jump shot, it'll be HELL to pay!

It's a pretty big loss, especially against teams with an inside presence. The loss is magnified if their shooters are having an off-night.

Pearl's a good coach though, and will compensate well for the loss. They're still a dangerous team because of their shooting and athleticism.

I know Alabama likes to run, but we should take some air out of the ball, pound the ball low to Hall all night and try to get their bigs in foul trouble.

This and the depth comment above. The dropoff from McElmore to Spencer isn't significant, the effect that having only 3 players who play PF/C on the roster is. Both of AU's 3/SF players are listed ~6'6 ~220-230
though, so they are serviceable at the 4/PF while not ideal.

Also hard to imagine AU playing at their season's tempo with only 8 scholarship players

It's only going to get ramped up, as Auburn is likely to play "4 guard" lineups. Go small or go home I guess

Probably a good idea. It honestly would tire AU more than just running the floor

Auburn defensively mitigates an opponents size in the post by playing hyper aggressive D to fight for position/deny entry passes. That is an extremely taxing style of play for undersized post men

If anything does, this will be the thing that would derail Auburn at this point. The 4 guard thing could spell the front court a little but I don't see it as a viable major game plan...too many bigs around the league would feast on the defense that would create, imo.

Hey Gene,

26-1 Brophy plays Mountain Pointe tomorrow night, will be a tough game, but I will be there watching the Broncos in the semi's at ASU.

Also, Brophy hired former NFL QB John Kitna as head football coach. They made a run at Kurt Warner from what I heard, but he turned it down.

Yep, and tired players commit dumb fouls.

I can't recall off hand, does Auburn use a lot of zone defense? Seems with how streaky Bama can be shooting the ball, that might be a good way to protect their big men and clog up space down low given their quickness and athleticism.

It'll be interesting to see how hard Auburn tries to get offensive boards. They're a good rebounding team and will have watched us get killed on the glass against Kentucky, but they won't want to pick up fouls on that end either.

I think I heard the line dropped from 10 to 6 after he got hurt. 4 points is a good bit for one player

line is higher than I thought it would be

Aub -7.5 Ala (Wed/7:30pm)
Ala leads series 94-62
Aub leads 26-30 at home
Ala held Aub to 71 points earlier this season, lowest total of the year.

I saw that crazy game winner awhile back that was awesome. It is crazy, when I was at BCP we oscillated between average and trash. The new coach Hooten is the man though, I always liked him when I was there

You said your son went to BCP or daughter to XCP right?

Absolutely nuts hire.

I never liked Moolander. I don't think he was that great of a coach and his state championships were a combo of elite talent + fluke

Very few big men have "feasted" on AU's 6'3 225lb PF/C. Except for TAMU (twas 2 bigs), AU has outperformed expectations

AU's post defense relies on hyper aggressive ball denial via positioning + fronting the post + immediate double. Given our athleticism + "low center of gravity weight", we've been great defending the post relative to expectations

As I've been saying, AU's problem is if we can keep the required intensity to play 40min at that level.

quote:

We will play a 1-1-3 defense occasionally as a change of pace. It frequently happens after a full court press (I doubt we see much of now) and we also will switch midpossession at times

I wouldn't say we are a good rebounding team as much as we have some "sneaky offensive rebounder" types. The "guards" who have a knack of sneaking past weak boxouts to get position

Against teams with length, Auburn frequently gets out rebounded. Any team with a ~7ft type guy who can tip OReb to the backcourt will get multiple possessions

I’m guessing that’s supposed to say Auburn leads 36-30 at home?
