They could try to get Kermit Davis from MTSU
Posted on 2/13/18 at 9:28 am to Bamafan15
He's been at MTSU so long that I think he may be content just staying there. His one year at Texas A&M in the 90s was such a disaster that maybe he's decided he's best at the mid-major level. He is from Mississippi though and played at Miss State.

I wonder if Ole Miss will go after Pelphrey If that happens, any thoughts on who we get to replace him?
I wouldn't mind if we just made a swap. AK might be able to help us on the offensive end. If nothing else, give us some new thoughts to end the 4 minute scoring droughts we almost always seem to have.
But I do think UAB head coach is the more likely landing spot for AK

ESPN’s 2019 mock draft came out and 3 Bama players are in it.
15. Herbert Jones
33. John Petty
39. Donta Hall
It's been so interesting to watch Herbert blossom as a college player. I watched both he and Petty in the State Finals last year, and was largely unimpressed with Herbert and blown away by Petty's ability. He's flipped a switch at Bama for sure, or he just may have had an off game that I watched.

I like Herb as a player, but 15 just seems a little ridiculous at this point.

NBA drafts off potential and Jones has a ton of it. Imagine right now if Jones didn't turn the ball over and was a consistent scoring threat. We'd be a 3-5 loss team right now. I think he will get better next year and carry us most of the way.

is there video anywhere online of the Ala-Ken '81-82 SEC finals?
I remember listening to it on the radio as a kid in Tuscaloosa. Was it even on tv? We lived in the country so it may have been and just not at our place.

I think if Petty shoots well and the effort is good tonight, we'll win pretty easily. If Petty is off, it could be tough because they play a lot of zone.

Key is playing much better and could offset a poor Petty performance if he plays well.

I'm sure it was on TV somewhere. It was a LONG time ago but I'm pretty sure I remember watching it. If I've got my games & years right, Ennis Whatley played the entire 40 minutes despite having a broken nose and wearing this clear almost full face mask.

According to something I found earlier looking for some video of it, it was on NBC to a national audience.

1) that video is awesome
2) the 70's funk music is A+
3) Dirk Minniefield- forgot that name
4) Whatley shot 50% from the field that year
4) great find
I remember going to the first game of the year that season as a kid. He was a big deal. I remember him spinning in circles with the ball late running out the clock.

My grandparents moved back to Tuscaloosa midway through that season and started taking me and my brother to games. Had season tickets starting the next year. Grandpa loved him some Pizza Hut and we'd hit the Hut in Alberta City before every single game.
He had a pretty good game against Jordan in the Sweet 16 if I remember right.

So we need A&M over Mizzu and OM over Ark in these early games?

What about Petty......im so confused. You guys that watched him in high school wtf ? I watched several highlights n was pumped about his commitment. Hes been a one trick pony and average to bad at times. He had to be a different player in high school ?
Posted on 2/13/18 at 6:13 pm to JBearden
they are all different players in HS
Posted on 2/13/18 at 6:23 pm to McGregor
Petty played the same way in HS. He was inconsistent. His work ethics is not that great. He got by his talents and now he's on College level.. I think he's realizing little by little that he has to put in hard work.

Going from HS to big time D1 in hoops has to be a huge shock. Most kids rarely even play against people their same size, much less bigger/stronger/faster.
It's a huge leap.
