Did Avery really make a comment about being 10-1 w a softer schedule?
Was there context to why that got brought up (e.g reporter question/comparison) or was it a random comment?

I don't think he was provoked into saying it. It's just been the go to excuse after each loss this year.

I really don't think it was a direct shot at Auburn, but who knows.

Yeah I think he just came out and said it. Although he is right- we probably would have a better record had we played an easier schedule, it really bothers me that he has said something similar to this several times this year. Fact is that we have an 8-4 record and have struggled in every game this year sans Lipscomb and Alabama A&M. Maybe instead of beating his chest about a tough schedule he could coach up the team so we quit playing down to inferior teams. It's like we are watching a Mike Shula coached team with better talent.

If we beat A&M Saturday we got a chance to go on a nice run here before the Oklahoma game. Am I confident...No, but it can happen.

Just seems hard to believe. I figured someone else (reporter) brought up AU earlier in conference or part of a question so it would make sense

At the end of this season it will become more clear about Avery's coaching ability. Until then it appears we have some talented players that don't play well as a team and they're not coached really well.

We better start getting some key wins to lock up our spot. We're likely going to have a "wtf" loss, and we don't need any of those if we don't sneak in a win against UF, UK, A&M, or Arky.
For once, I'd like to go into conference play confident in the teams ability to finish in the top half and make the tournament. Literally all I ask for for our program. Avery needs to turn shite around quick.

I haven't given up yet. We've really only lost two games that we probably shouldn't have, and we're playing a bunch of young guys.
But, I'm becoming increasingly alarmed.

I haven't given up yet because Sexton is capable of doing some incredible things, and Petty is capable of getting hot. Like you though, I've become more suspect because I'm starting to lose faith in Avery.
I hope he turns it around and proves me wrong. Fans thinking that if someone criticizes Avery, they're not a fan of him and are pessimistic, when it's literally the complete opposite. The guy is a great ambassador for the program and has an infectious personality that markets the program and gets recruits. But when it's all said and done, if you can't get it done on the court, then there really is reason to keep him around. Alabama should have a good basketball program.

I'm just going to watch individual games from here out and hope we win. I can't think about it much more than that without getting intensely frustrated.
That's exactly how I feel. I'm just going to watch and try to distance myself from feelings or I'll just be a miserable person.

Some simple things that should be fixed by the A&M game
1. No more John Petty heat checks
2. Shorter rotation- we had 4 guys who played but got less than 10 minutes against Texas
3. Hall featured more- he's currently top 50 in PER in college basketball and only got 14 minutes vs Texas
4. AJ Jr doesn't play
5. Give all of Riley's minutes to Herbert if Riley bricks his first open shot- Jones is only averaging 8 minutes per game since Key returned despite being solid through the first 10 games
6. Tell Sexton to stay on his man on defense- I get young guys aren't good at defense, but Sexton gets lost a lot even for a freshmen.

I think this is an easy fallacy of PER to say he should be featured more. His PER is based on his role and doesn't extrapolate well for expanded role
Hall is great at what he is asked to do, assisted post scoring + putbacks. Right now he likely would struggle to create offensive opportunities on his own/unassisted vs capable post defenders
Texas game specifically, he was in early foul trouble and having a bad game (1-3FG, 0-2FT 3TOs in 14min) . Giddens meanwhile was playing extremely well (5-8FG, 0TO, 6reb) and deserved to stay in

4. AJ Jr doesn't play
Should be #1. Not sure how this hasn't been nipped in the bud

Herbert's Kenpom TO rate is 32.4 which is honestly one of the highest I've ever seen. More to your point, Norris has a higher eFG%, KenPom O Rating, lower usage rate (=better role player for Petty/Sexton)
You probably are right that Herb should get minutes, but Norris is a solid rotational player that plays smart, hustles and gives veteran presence to a young team.

When you have his usage rate, he probably is just tired and struggling w team D concepts (hard for most/all FR)
Man is great and all, but AJ should throw out some zone concepts occasionally to help both big man fouls + energy levels when opponent has their subpart shooters in

I think we've zoned pretty well this year. Not great, as we have gotten beat by some of the better, experienced mid-majors we have played on deep possessions (Mercer especially), but overall it's been a nice surprise. We are long and athletic and our big guys are athletic enough to cover space on the back end.
The biggest problem with us playing zone is we become an even worse rebounding team.
