Saban: The team wasn't physical enough on the line of scrimmage. 6 or 7 players were not out there today. Vogler, L. Brown, D. Jackson did not scrimmage.

We don't know the situation. Hopefully someone can expand on it.

Per my fraternity brother that was at the scrimmage:

"Sims just threw a pick"
"Sims with a TD pass to Chris Black"
"Tony Brown just picked Coker"
"Marlon Humphrey just had a nick pick of Sims"
"Coker threw a pick six"
"Its been a lot of fumbles from everyone. The situation is looking about even. No one has really set themselves apart. Sims has had more snaps"
"Coker threw a nice deep ball to White and he dropped it"
"He's out there holding on to the ball too, taking sacks" (Coker)

He posted this on our group me.

Coker supposedly went 3/17 or something like that.

Coker was 12/32 1TD 2INT, lots of tipped balls and overthrown short passes

Sims was 16/25 2TD 2INT 2 Rushing TD

Sims won today, this is just one scrimmage, I think Saban's comments about BS playing faster will hopefully light a fire under Coker's arse. Remember he has only been in an actual practice setting under coaches for 2 weeks. This will be decided on the field in the first couple of games.

Obviously not what you want to hear.

ETA: 12 of 32 isn't much better. I get the feeling Saban wants Blake to win because of how long he has been there.

Was Phil Sims and A.J.'s competition like this? I mean was it like we had to choose who sucked the least

I get the opposite feeling based on Saban's comments. He and Kiffin are gonna give Coker every chance to win the job. Saban seems complimentary of Sims in a "I wish things were different" type of way.

But I may be wrong. Just my take. Everyone has a different take. Those some people don't understand that.

I'll first say that I want the best player to win in order to give us a chance to win, obviously. There have been a lot of other practices that none of our REC friends were able to attend. I just have a hard time believing that Sims has removed all of his shortcomings in a few month period, they are sure to crop up again under the lights in a game setting. If they don't, then I'll eat crow and say roll tide.

The best player will be out there and if nothing else it will not matter which one at this point. It seems Coker is giving the opportunity to take the job but has yet to do it. I give Sims credit for sticking it out when it seems every other QB at UA in his situation would have transferred already. At least with him staying it shows he has the desire to prove something. Now whether it amounts to anything is another story.

If this is true I can not wait to see them when they are the starting duo out there. Yes it is a scrimmage but a lot of times true freshman have the talent just do not read the game well enough to be in the right position in our complicated schemes. Our DBs concerns may have been eliminated with solid play from Jones and Sylve in fall camp, Jackson coming back and the dynamic duo at freshman. Also I hope M Smith has a great year.
