Gayle Benson Promised To Continue To Run Saints The Way Tom Benson Did
© Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
Gayle Benson, the widow of deceased Saints owner Tom Benson, wrote in a letter to the 31 other NFL teams on Thursday that she will continue to run the team the way her husband did...
quote:

“As is standard NFL practice, my husband provided a report to the Commissioner summarizing the Ownership Succession Plan of the New Orleans Saints,” Benson wrote in a letter to her fellow owners, which was passed along to PFT. “For clarity, my husband’s plan and desire was for me to have full voting control of the Saints and to serve as Controlling Owner of the team per NFL rules. I understood this and want to reassure you that I am fully prepared to assume this role. Moving forward, I too, will provide the Commissioner my very own Ownership Succession Plan of the New Orleans Saints. Please rest assured, I will own and operate this franchise until my death and do so with the same drive and focus towards success that my husband displayed throughout his life.”

Jerry Jones has been a far superior OWNER than the "EXTORTIONIST" Tom Benson. Jones has grown the Cowboys into the most valued sports franchise in the world and paid for all of the AT&T Stadium other than $250 million. Benson on the other hand threatened to move the Saints to San Antonio and used Katrina to extort $400 million from STATE tax payers, not NOLA tax payers! Jones may not have been a good GM over the years but as a owner he I superior to Benson! LINK

Huh? He’s the most successful coach in Saints history. This is the most successful and consistent period in the clubs history. Not everyone gets to enjoy a run like he Patriots.

"most successful coach in Saints history" You say that like it took a good coach to accomplish lol. They've been so bad for so long that mediocre seems elite.

They won a Super Bowl, have been to two NFC title games, and lost in the divisional round of the playoffs last year. His tenure has been up and down, but with more up than down. Outside of Belichick and Tomlin, most coaches have a down seasons or two. I'm not Payton's biggest fan in terms of personnel decisions or game management, but overall, he's provided a good foundation and is a great offensive play-caller. I credit Brees more than Payton for their success, but let's not act like Payton is a bum or that the Saints "will continue to suck." All you did there was reveal your ignorance.

She will be a better owner (for NOLA) than Tom

She has $20 million a year coming to her from state tax payers until 2033. Sit back and enjoy life while those tax payers work their butts off and receive nothing from it other than a tax bill.LINK

So constantly threatening to leave and milking the state for tax dollars? Sounds great!

People like to have amnesia when it comes to Tom's pre-Katrina antics. I do think that after Katrina he did everything he could to improve his image and had a positive impact on the city and franchise. But his continued stance of trying to get more money from the state, a new stadium, yada-yada, was quite disconcerting to most conservative, budget minded fans.

"People like to have amnesia when it comes to Tom's pre-Katrina antics." Agreed. I'm a lifelong Saints fan, and I never quite forgave Benson for trying to move the Saints to San Antonio after Katrina. Had Paul Tagliabue not blocked him, they might have moved there.

This is what Benson extorted by using Katrina...LINK
