I give these guys some slack. There are grown adults slobbering all over these kids because someone thinks he can get rich riding coat tails. This spills over into how the kids are treated, and why they think things like this are appropriate. I’ve coached a lot of D 1 kids in basketball. I tell them all the same thing, you don’t need the show. You better learn how to play. No one cares about you once you hit campus, including the coach that recruited you and promised you the world.

This should have been stopped a decade or two ago. When I signed, there was a write up in the local paper. That was it. No hat ceremony, no ESPN breaking news. Of course, I was a kicker; so there’s that.

And we wonder why they do this stupid stuff. Because we give them the platform for it.
