Ridiculous call during the ECU vs. Bryant game this weekend. Per Barstool Sports...
quote:
ECU was tied with Bryant 3-3 in the ninth when Justin Wilcoxen turned on one and smoked it to right for a walk-off solo shot. ECU comes on the field to celebrate, they get their first win of the season, the boys are partying. But then you see the umpires get together to chat. It was close to the line so maybe it was foul? WRONG. The first base umpire had granted the first baseman time just as the pitch was being thrown. Only the first baseman and umpire reacted to it. Watch everyone else, the pitcher throws it, the hitter is ready to go, home plate umpire goes through with it, no one else reacts. Why is that umpire granting the defender time? Just because it's requested doesn't mean you have to grant it. There is 0 reason to grant time that late. So after the ECU manger gets tossed the game goes on and ECU ends up losing in extra innings, 5-4.
