The New York Yankees are on the verge of making history by hiring Rachel Balkovec as the first female manager in Minor League Baseball history. The 34-year-old former college softball catcher, who first joined the Yanks in 2019, will be promoted as skipper of the Low A Tampa Tarpons, according to the AP.
quote:

Balkovec has been working in pro baseball since 2012, when she became the strength and conditioning coach in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system.

She later joined the Houston Astros organization in 2016 ... eventually holding the same position for their Double-A Corpus Christi affiliate.

Balkovec is a trailblazer in the sport -- she already made history when she was hired as a minor league hitting coach for the Yanks 3 years ago, the first woman to be named to that position.

Balkovec also participated in last season's Futures Game as a coach, becoming the first woman to do so.

Doesn't matter Yankees usually don't bring guys up from farm. They use them to trade away for big money player in another Franchise.

Meh...still not going to bring back fans that have left the stands. MLB needs to figure how to get those people back as they are losing generational fans that watched because their dad and papaw's, etc watched. That's where sports kept their fanbase, as enough people just don't pick up out of nowhere. Like hockey...I didn't grow up watching it caring for it much. Though it's a solid sport I'm not becoming a dependable fan. Other than going to a game I'm invited to. Though the NHL had an opp to cover my sports needs, but they joined the blm garbage too.

Saw her many times in/with Corpus Christi. Don't take this the wrong way but her arse/lower body are perfect for a catcher. No, really.

Wow! So brave and so woke of the Yankees to make a move like this. I'm sure all the Yankee prospects that end up on that team can't wait to be a part of such an historic social experiment that is sure to help advance their chances of making it to the big leagues someday. Yay!!!! Go team!!!!

It's a job. If she can do it she'll keep it or get promoted. If not she'll get fired. Just like everyone else. It's not woke it's a hire. Apparently women work nowadays.

At this point I’m convinced MLB doesn’t want to exist anymore.

So she went from being a strength coach to a hitting coach and now a manager? What? Professional sports has gone nuts! Just wait till they cannot fire her!
